Bigwallmaster 0 #1 February 19, 2004 That post about outsourcing got me to thinking about those bullies over at Walmart. Their constant pursuit of cheaper prices, and their constant bullying of vendors is a major contributor to our manufacturing jobs going overseas. Believe I know. I own a steel company in Los Angeles, and alot of the metal stampers I sell are just scared to death of companies like Walmart, Target, and Home Depot. They are afraid to raise prices to these companies, for fear that they will start buying their products from China and the likes. Thats especially scary in my industry, with the price of steel rapidly increasing. Unfortunately Bush will probably win term again. Hopefully he will realize the impacts of cheap labor from overseas, and do something to curb this unfair trade imbalance. bigwall
PhillyKev 0 #2 February 19, 2004 Yep....I pointed out in another thread earlier this week that the lowest 33% of income earners in the US have seen income reductions of about 20% over the past 10 years. It's because the small, retail shops and suppliers they used to work for have been driven out of business and they're forced to work for companies such as those you mentioned at lower rates because they have a (damn...i forget the word, means a buyers monopoly...it's some kind of ...oly). Just as monopolies render capitalism ineffective...so does the other ...oly.

And they have more purchasing power than most third world countries. I avoid going there as much as possible.

Unstable 9 #5 February 20, 2004 I don't mean to be the selfish jerkhere - and I know that I am probably going to get flamed for this, but Wal Mart is just doing what is in their best interest...... I can go to WalMart & buy everything I need for a fraction of the price of stuff at the Mall, and in a College town like ours, they provide hundred upon hundreds of jobs - at rather competitive wages...... FrogNog 1 #6 February 20, 2004 QuoteHopefully he will realize the impacts of cheap labor from overseas Ah, so you feel the weakening of the US dollar compared to the Euro is a good thing, yes? Because this makes imports more expensive (and exportation more profitable), encouraging domestic production. -=-=-=-=- Pull.

They just want to make money. If you like the way they do it, then by all means, shop there. Compared to other local supermarkets and deparment stores I don't think they treat their employees very well, but that's just me.

Yeah, but at what cost. I refuse to shop there because there is no service. The people who work there don't give two fucks about thire jobs or helping anyone. Out of something on the shelf? Oh well. Need a price on something that isn't marked? Oh well. Couldn't change your oil because we ran out of oil filters? (when there was one sitting on the shelf!) Oh well. You had to wait in line for 20 minutes for one cashire to ring you up because there were two more sitting on their fat asses chatting to her? Oh well. We forgot to put the drain plug back in your jeep and the oly reason you didn't destroy the motor is because you were smart enough to check prior to driving away? Oh well. I hate Wal-mart.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
yardhippie 0 #11 February 20, 2004 there are those who work there that do care. My wife works in the pharmacy and get treated like a bad dog most every day, and for some unknown reason goes back everyday. but she is NOT the norm. as far as their auto center goes.. they are idiots. I was working in a shop about 1mi from a wally world when this lady stopped in saying her oil light had come one... upon inspection the drain plug was missing. We belive it was installed, and never tightened.Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #

I applaud for that. Unfortunately Wal-Mart not only seems to attract the Lowest Common Denominator in staff but the same in customers. Another reason I won't go. Oh well. Quote Know how you feel there. My wife went there (with out me knowing, I would have told her no way) and had her oil changed. when she got home, oil was dripping all over the driveway. Go under to find this blue crap all over the drain plug. The blue crap is a sealant that you can buy to try and fix problems like this. They stripped the drain plug threads putting it back on with air tools. I had to buy a new oil pan. Not cheap. Also, when I confronted them they said they didnt do it. I filed a formal complaint with the company and thier lawyers said there was no way to prove that they did it. Even though this truck never had an oil leak before or blue crap on the drain plug. So they basically told me to F*** off. Great company!! So yeah I boycot them to.
 PhillyKev 0 #14 February 20, 2004 QuoteQuotethe other ...oly.
