Ian84 0 #3 January 23, 2004 Had a part time teacher who was a student at the medical school in Grenada. She brought us on a field trip to the anatomy lab when I was 9. It was great......one of the professors/doctors went over to two of the bodies and took out the lungs. One was pink.......the other was grey and nasty like in the anti smoking ads........that put me off for life. Ive never had a drag.
SkydivingNurse 0 #4 January 23, 2004 I have every reason in the world not to smoke; I'm a nurse, my grandpap has severe emphysema, they are expensive as hell, but I haven't been able to quit yet. I'd like about five minutes alone with that tobacco exec who said that nicotine wasn't addictive.

lemonjelly 0 #9 January 23, 2004 Yep, I confess. I gave up for a month an d found it quite easy using the nicorette 'cigarette' type thing. But I lost it and immediately went into a newsagents and bought 20 fags!! I do a lot of scuba and it's amazing the number of people at divecentres who smoke anyway, what's the worst that could possibly happen....************************************************* RED LIGHTS & OFF LANDINGS ARE JUST MY THANG http://www.redlightrob.co.uk

winsor 236 #17 January 23, 2004 Quotethis is an all or nothing either you do or you don't if this is interiesting to someone else they can ask how many quit/started or other questions My last cigarette was on 25 May 1990. Nicotine is a tougher addiction to kick than narcotics (uh, according to something I read somewhere). Alcohol, barbiturates and some tranq's are the worst addictions to kick in the sense that cold-turkey withdrawal can prove fatal. DShiznit 0 #18 January 23, 2004 I dipped for 9 yrs, then started smoking to quit dipping. I did that for a few years, then all of the sudden just quit one day (didn't work out to well with asthma) and started dipping again. One day I just realized that I didn't want to anymore and I have been tobacco free since October 21, 2003. Now I cannot even stand the smell of smoke. Makes me want to puke. I have gained a few pounds in the process, though.

Slappie 9 #20 January 23, 2004 This is a pretty touchy subject with me when it comes to "Smoke Nazis" I'm a smoker. Have been since I was 17. Was a mistake I made along time ago. I've tried to quit before. Was unsuccessful. It's an addiction you non-smokers have no concept of. I feel there are many smokers like myself who really get irked with the nazis when they get on their soapbox preaching how vile and distgusting it is. We all know it's a bad habit. The person smoking is normally not disgusting nor vile or evil. It's an ADDICTION! Smokers (most anyways) don't lite up because we want to kill you or infect your air space with our smoke. It is a need we have. You would rather me smoke sometimes then not. I can be a real bear when I'm in withdrawls from nicotien. It's a choice we all made. Granted it wasn't a very smart one but we live with it. So please think about it before you crawl up on your box and preach to us about what a nasty habit it is.. We already know.. I will quit one day. so until then don't judge me nor my character by an addiction I have. kitof1976 0 #22 January 23, 2004 I quit somking when I started to skydive about a year ago. I thought that skydiving was so cool that I would want to do it for a long time. So when I imagined myself at 65 with emphysema and strolling around 40 lbs bottle of oxigen I thought It would be kind of bitch to be juming with that bottle ... So I quit and I am damn glad I did. I now have even more money for jump tickets! "We see the world just the way we are...

GARYC24 3 #24 January 23, 2004 Most "non-smokers" are basically ex-smokers. And anyone telling ex-smokers that they cannot quit is like a alcholic telling a AA member that they cannot quit. Everyone can quit. All will not quit. I work with a guy that enjoys smoking, he says he will never quit, and he will be one of those people blowing smoke through a hole in his throat, just like that lady in a TV commercial. Now, with that, not much to say.. But when someone tells me they are addicted and cannot stop, but wish they could,,well I don't buy it. Just say, you don't want to stop.. And yes, it is disgusting and yes it does offend me and many other people when you infect my airspace. Just as you made the concious choice to start, you can make the concious choice to quit. Please dont write it off as an addiction. Just say that you are a weak willed person and you would like to change that by quitting. I have thought about people that smoke and how hard it must be to quit but think about it this way: What is harder: 1. Smiling at your children when they watch you die in the hospital because you did not want to give it up,or 2. Actually giving it up. My father smoked for thirty years and then gave it up when I was born because he knew the effects on me and my mother so please dont say that you have been at it so long that you cannot stop.
