peacefuljeffrey 0 #1 February 24, 2004 Back in the '80s and '90s I was a pretty big fan of The Punisher comic books. They made a crappy movie version years ago with Dolph Lundgren, but I never saw it. Now Marvel is making a new version with some unknown guy (or at least I never heard of him; he looks like Christopher Lambert, though it's not him). I just watched the trailer online and it looks pretty cool. I'm psyched! Anyone else ever read the comics? I used to love the Punisher Armory special issues. Having been up on the latest hardware, I was able to realize that they used true-to-life information on the Punisher's weapons (right down to details about the full-auto Glock 18!). I mostly liked him when he was nothing more than an obedient piece of morphable clothing. I was no longer collecting when they went haywire with the Venom clone storyline. That was pretty sweet. (Not quite as far south as the "real" SoBe -- as has been pointed out on DZ.com) I got fed up with Marvel comics when they got addicted to crossovers and multi-issue limited series. They basically forced you to buy about four times as many comics as you really wanted to -- and if you let up for a month, you got LOST in the storyline! And christ almighty, it was every month some stupid-ass sort of "alternate future" crap. Talk about running out of ideas. I could never tell who was from the future or not, whether Charles Xavier was currently dead or not... It was sooo lame. That, and the fact that they suddenly had to draw every single character with these ridiculous proportions. Guys with 30 inch waists and 65 inch torsos... Women with the same. Everyone was built like the damned Hulk. Even characters like Cannonball or Rusty from X-Factor went from being built like teens to being the archtypal "super-hero." I decided they were catering to some lowest-common denominator and I gave up on them. I still have about 3000 issues from 1986-91. Some of them might have some decent value, nowadays, like Spiderman's wedding. I haven't checked. I have the first several years worth of X-Factor, too. How can you take such a great character and draw him like such a piece of garbage?
