katiebear21 0 #2 February 23, 2004 Looks like I'm not the only one getting screwed by the army! Good vibes to ya brother. You know, sometimes it takes them ages to finalize a decision! Katie Get your PMS glass necklace here

RevJim 0 #4 February 23, 2004 QuoteThe U.S. Army launched the Comanche armed scout helicopter program in 1983, and low-rate initial production of the craft was slated to begin in 2006. Launched in '83, and funded since, this would piss me off too, even though I'm not employed by any of those companies or the military. Over 20 years of funding only to be killed less than 2 years before scheduled production? I want a tax refund. It's your life, live it! quade 4 #5 February 23, 2004 That would be a stupid move. Military industrial complex + job = votes. I really don't see them cancelling the program at this time, certainly not in an election year. GWB has enough problems with jobs and helicopter issues right now and I can't see him allowing the Pentagon to cancel the program. In all likelihood, this is a trial balloon sent up by some paranoid folks to see what kind of reaction / support they can get. Beyond just being a stupid move, I think it would be an outrage to have spent so much money and be so close to deploying the system only to have it cancelled at this very late stage. Besides, it's one kickass chopper!quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
pilotdave 0 #6 February 23, 2004 Yep, and while the real production for aircraft that will enter service is 2 years away, there are 4 Comanches on the production line right now, and 5 more on the way. It'd be a real shame to scrap 4 partially built aircraft, not to mention the 1300+ people that work on the comanche program, not including the suppliers in 38 states. Gawain 0 #9 February 23, 2004 I don't think DoD will be able to do that, not with support for the program from the President and most in Congress. The RAH66 is built in Connecticut right? Call Senators Joe Lieberman and Christopher Dodd. So much R&D...as a taxpayer, I want to see a payoff for the money spent, plus I want us to have all the good stuff for our military, from what I've read, the Comanche is good stuff. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! pilotdave 0 #10 February 23, 2004 I REALLY hope Sikorsky wins the presidential helicopter contract. That could be my future job. Am I the only one that would be embarrased by my president flying in a british/italian helicopter? Marine One just wouldn't sound appropriate for that. pleifer 0 #11 February 23, 2004 I saw a blurb on tv the other night on some of the things that 'copter can do..... It would be a shame to loose something like that. _________________________________________ The Angel of Duh has spoke
pilotdave 0 #12 February 23, 2004 Well, I just got semi-offical word. Comanche is dead. Luckily it sounds like my job is safe though. I guess I'l be moving to another program. Not sure what I'm doing tomorrow though! Dave

Slappie 9 #15 February 24, 2004 pilotdave, I have to say I'm sorry this was actually true. Saw the news about it lastnight. I'm sorry for you and everyone who will be displaced by this. But, I have to kinda agree with the reasons behind the decsion to close this project. The money was spent. Was it spent properly? Maybe not. Did Boeing cause this? Who knows. I don't know so I can't say. Before I digress to much, I hope you all recover quickly.
