BikerBabe 0 #1 February 24, 2004 That's right, my fine feathered friends, the Air Force has decided to move the BikerBabe family to LA!!! We should be there sometime this summer. The Good: I'll be living in SoCal! The totally incredibly 100% awesome: I won't have to travel to jump at a turbine DZ! Nor will I have to travel to train 4-way! The not so great: LA Air Force Base is basically in South Central. So now the hunt is on for a decent place to live within reasonable driving distance.... I'm actually really really happy about this! YAY!Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

Gawain 0 #7 February 24, 2004 QuoteThe not so great: LA Air Force Base is basically in South Central. So now the hunt is on for a decent place to live within reasonable driving distance.... You'll be quite surprised about nice places to live within reasonable driving distance to LAAFB. El Segundo is highly underrated, do not leave it off your list. You will also be able to find some diamonds in the rough in Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach. Torrance too. Congratulations, you're going to love California. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! flyhi 24 #11 February 24, 2004 Hopefully you knew about this or it is incorrect. ***Subject: BASE CLOSURES FOR 2005 BRAC List - Just off the Press Air Force base closures and realignments include: * Altus AFB, Oklahoma * Beale AFB, California * Brooks AFB, Texas * Cannon AFB, New Mexico * Columbus AFB, Mississippi * Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota * Goodfellow AFB, Texas * Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota * Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts * Kirtland AFB, New Mexico * Los Angeles AFB, California * McConnell AFB, Kansas * Nellis AFB, Nevada (to realign) * Seymour Johnson AFB, North Carolina (to realign) * Shaw AFB, South Carolina * Vance AFB, Oklahoma The Air Force will lose 2,260 military and 2,839 civilian manpower positions, and 1,055 reserve drill authorizations next year, according to the 2004 force-structure announcement released July 23. Many bases, both active duty and reserve component, are affected by the realignment. In many cases, units will gain aircraft and missions, while others will pare down. Besides manpower reductions, the realignment formally announces the retirement of the C-9A Nightingale and KC-135E Stratotanker aircraft. According to Air Force officials, the 20 C-9s are being retired because of reduced-patient movement, range limitations and increasing maintenance and upgrade costs. The aeromedical-evacuation mission will become a requirements-based system using all passenger-capable aircraft. The service will retire 44 of the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Command's 43-year-old KC-135Es next year, replacing them with 24 KC-135Rs from the active-duty fleet. By the end of fiscal 2006, the Air Force will have retired 68 of the KC-135Es. ***Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
BikerBabe 0 #12 February 24, 2004 That list is a fake. It's been around now for a couple of months, and no one can verify it. There are bases on there that would NEVER close, anyway. I could see them closing LA AFB, but since the decision won't be made until 2005, it probably won't actually close until around 2008 or so, long after I'm gone. Wingy, it's a space command acquisition base, mainly because of the proximity of major contractors like TRW, Raytheon, etc. Probably if you were a comm or intel troop you might have a shot at getting there...Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! skyyhi 0 #13 February 24, 2004 QuoteThat list is a fake. I used to work for the Real Estate company that was going to handle the sale of LA AFB. The company put forth a lot of effort to market the property. Then one day we received a letter saying LAAFB was off the closure list. So my guess is there is a new - updated list somewhere and this base is currently not on it. . . Bikerbabe will be in LA for a while. . .and us girls will be happier for it. . .so Welcome To LA - home of LOTS AND LOTS of Otters, a Sky Van, a Jet, a Wind Tunnel and the friendliest skydivers around (okay so I am from this area and VERY biased. . .but I think the more girls out here the better. . .)________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy
