I'm sick of this. Do you want gay people to be supported in monogamy or not?

keith,

A troll??? Come on. We all knew where this thread was going. I just don't get it. I know Narci was drunk when he posted this but still. What is the point. Dude, Do what you want... Fuck men, Fuck women... whatever. But what is the point? Maybe I'm slow, but I just don't get it. Do you want marriage??? (Do you know what your asking for?) Who fucking cares, get a ring give it to him and have a ceremony what ever. Say your married. I just don't get any of it.

I'm a bit late to this party, but wanted to read the entire thread before posting so here's my two cents' worth:

I won't answer the poll because it is pointless, Narcimund says so outright. I do have strong feelings on the underlying subject though and was going to try to explain them then came across one of JP's later posts which reads:
Quote

I think the civil union thing is a good one. It allows any two people to assign the other as their heir and authority to make decisions on their behalf when they are incapacitated. If you want your partner to be able to make those choices and be your beneficiary, you should be able to do that as easily as straight couples can by getting married at the County Clerk's office.

I can't say it any better.

For those of you who oppose gay "marriage" -- fine, I understand the thinking that the word should only apply to a stereotypical hetero couple; that is no excuse for denying committed gay couples equal protection under the law.

Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

Marriage has become a symbol and public acknowledgment of love and lifelong commitment

For the minority. Not everyone gets married. And of those who do, 50% get divorced.

I should have known to qualify that statement. So let me now... DUH! ;)
I should have said, for those who get married...

And I also mentioned the divorce, adultery thing.

Almost everyone I know is divorced. Despite any individual feelings/cynicism/beliefs/naivete on the subject of marriage in general, for some - marriage is a hopeful and beautiful expression. For hetero and homosexuals alike.

Enough of the vagueness. Let's stop talking about "redefining marriage" and "civil unions" and other buzz words. Let's get down to the core of it.

Either you think societal support of monogamy is a good thing or a bad thing. What do you want gay people to have?

am also strongly opposed to polygamist marriages and human to animal marriages as well.

Good for you.

I'm opposed to Aliens abductions myslef. Especially the probing kind. But like your 2 exemples above, its got nothing to do with gay marriages.:S/reply]

Actually it does. Forgive me if I don't remember the exact terms from the DSM III R (I know they are up to DSM IV, but I don't care), but the bottomline is that these are all unconventional sexual practices. Actually the list goes even further. I will take a crack at a few. Incest, homosexuality, Beastialogy, polygomy, misegination, transexuality, etc. What is interesting is that all of these are deviances from normal sexual behavior. What is even more interesting is the hyprocsy involved when it comes to tolerance. I think tolerance simply depends on how many people are doing any one of these. That is how many people will you offend by making a joke or statement against it? Could you loose potential job offer because you pissed the wrong person off?

Why is there so much bigotry in the world. Wouldn't it be better if I just settled down with one special sheep. Instead of being promiscuous with the whole flock. :D

Way to my opinions. Shit you all should run for congress you would fit in well.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, your're a mile away and you have their shoes

but dont all gay people wear hIgh heels? I dont think I could walk for a whole mile in those things.

(sorry narcimund, Im not rying to stereotype but you gotta laugh when someone makes an archie bunker statement like that)

well I think his point is that just b/c they say they are maried they have no LEGAL right to help each other.
health insurance, credit, visitation rights if one is in the hospital, power of attorney(unless they go through that separately. I do beleive married couples have that right if one is incapacitated)
etc.
so, beyond his drunken ramblins there is a truth about the "DUMBNESS"( i know its not a word) that the govt holds

Meunkel, I hope you'll also accept my apology. You too are a perfect gentleman and it was your innocent post about Dean that triggered my thinking on this poll. I shouldn't have associated you personally with what you were writing about. Again, there was a lot of wine with dinner last night and I hope you can forgive me.

Narci,

I will forgive you, but only if you learn how to spell my name correctly. The "u" comes before the "e".

One other thing, now you're lumping me with the "perfect gentleman" category. I never claimed to be a "perfect gentleman.";)
