Gawain 0 #1 February 23, 2004 ...loud as hell. It was low too, well under 10K. It didn't take off from John Wayne, and its heading didn't seem right for it to have taken off from LA AFB in El Segundo. Way to low for it to have taken off from March AFB. Tustin MCAB? It was quite a site to behold BTW. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Gawain 0 #3 February 23, 2004 Well, they didn't drop anything on me. I can count that as a blessing. These things happen in SoCal, Billvon sees lots of black helocopters... Lee03 0 #4 February 23, 2004 Wouldn't be going to Tustin, the Marine Corps Air Station was closed as a result of the Base closures from 95. Probably practicing attack profiles, they are designed to fly low levels, or it could just be going back toward it's ome base is TX. That is where all the B-1s ars based now.-------- To put your life in danger from time to time ... breeds a saneness in dealing with day-to-day trivialities. --Nevil Shute, Slide Rule

Clownburner 0 #6 February 24, 2004 It couldn't have landed in Tustin even if it wasn't closed. Tustin MCAS has no runway - it was a helicopter base. I used to work across the street from there and my window faced the base. You might have been thinking of El Toro MCAS, which is also closed, but housed a lot of jets (mostly F/A-18s IIRC)... Anyway, I think they were just looking for Gawain's house for some live-munitions training. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

Lee03 0 #10 February 24, 2004 Both MCAS Tustin and MCAS El Toro were closed. Tustin was the Helicopter base and El Toro was the fixed wing base. The helos were split up, the CH-53Es went to Mimimar, the UH-1Ns and AH-1Ws went to teh airstation at Camp Pendleton and the CH-46Es went to 29 Palms. The F/A-18s, EA-6Bs and C-130 went to Mimimar.-------- To put your life in danger from time to time ... breeds a saneness in dealing with day-to-day trivialities. --Nevil Shute, Slide Rule
Gawain 0 #11 February 24, 2004 Quotethey've been doing alot of semi-clandestine stuff up at old GAFB in Victorville in the last couple yrs. War games and practice stuff I was thinking that too, maybe Edwards too. Both bases quite far away even for flying a pattern "around" there. It didn't seem normal though, seeing as how they have all of "North" Edwards, China Lake, etc. to fly around. This overflight was a solid heading 270, and the plane definitely was powering its engines, wings fully extended. I knew that El Toro was closed, I hadn't paid attention to Tustin (hey, those blimb hangers can hold anything!). Either way, it was the cat's pajamas seeing that big bird in the air. That is one of my favorite planes. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Lee03 0 #12 February 24, 2004 Yeah, those Blimp Hangers are huge, and they regestered national landmarks too. That was done to protect them from being torn down. Supposed to be the largest wooden structures in the world, if I remember correctly.-------- To put your life in danger from time to time ... breeds a saneness in dealing with day-to-day trivialities. --Nevil Shute, Slide Rule
