kansasskydiver 0 #1 February 24, 2004 Read the quote below... "To sign up for a jump class and make a skydive you must not weigh more than 220 lbs and be of 18 years or older. These restrictions have been implied by USPA and the FAA as safety measures. By checking the box below, you are stating that you DO NOT exceed the maximum weight limit (220 lbs), are at least 18 years of age the day of jumping, and understand that your deposit WILL NOT be refunded if your statement is inaccurate. If we feel the information you have provided is inaccurate, we do have the right to request proper identification as well as request that you are weighed prior to jumping. There are no exceptions as they are RULES that our Drop Zone must comply with set by the manufacturer of the equipment. Safety is our number one concern and cutting corners or making exceptions is not the way to go. Sorry NO EXCEPTIONS, PERIOD!!!" Now, this is the promt that our students read before signing-up for a class online... So why is it some kid just emailed me and asked if him weighing 235 lbs was a recommendation or just a strict rule he could break? HELLO?!?!?! lol today has been stupid whuffo day for me sorry. "Umm how much is a skydive and when do I sign-up for a class?" Hmmm, well you found my email address, how about you clikc on the link that says PRICES maybe? grrrr sometimes just sometimes I wonder how some of our kids get into college<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist! Because many DZ's let you break that rule. I'd go a step farther and say virtually all DZ's let you break that rule, and do so regularly. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. Asking questions about something you don't know anything about, does not make you "stupid". If someone weighed 221 lbs., would you turn them away? billvon 3,107 #11 February 24, 2004 >So this wasn't clear? Our DZ had similar language in our flyer. We took up to about 250lb people. The language was intended to keep out the tub-o-lards, but we'd make exceptions for people who were in good shape. Why does that suprise you? We just had several very long threads about how skydivers sign the waiver even if they don't really agree with it, or don't believe the language it contains. Why wouldn't they doubt the other printed stuff at a DZ as well?

happythoughts 0 #13 February 24, 2004 Last Friday, an 18 yo kid on our boat heard that I skydived and said he wanted to go. "So, how much do your weigh?" "6'4 and 280." ruh-roh! No really chubby either, just a really big kid. "If he doesn't take the tandem master with him, is he still over the max?"

It just means you are not familiar or lacking the knowledge. Are some skydivers really that small minded, or is it just me?? Whuffos are not stupid - they just chose not to learn about skydiving. Does that make you stupid coz you dont have knowledge about a certain thing? I think not.

champu 1 #18 February 25, 2004 The fact of the matter is, as the head of this kinda club, you're going to be dealing with a lot of newbies. I've gotten very used to it, and I usually try to think, "hey at least they're excited about jumping, even if this is the eleventy billionith time I've answered these questions." It beats people that only know skydiving through "You Gotta See This!" and wouldn't have it any other way. The one thing that does get me down about the position is that it always involves taking passengers in my car, and that makes it hard for me to stay out late with the people at the dropzone

Its amazing what happens when you take a few moments to answer a question or two (even if it is for the umteenth time). One never knows the impact that you may make with a whuffo...why they might even try a tandem or purchase one for someone else! What a concept As to newbies...it is good to remember that we all started in the very same place.
