Mcafee... protects my 6700 PC's and my 485 servers... :P

Infection rate last year? 15 PC's and every one of them was traced to users not having current files on their PC.

Geeks choice? Mcafee hands down. I'd perfer to say Linux but thats over the ability of most people. Mcafee wins for home users in my opinion since they don't make you have a subscription to stay updated like Norton does.

I have Norton at home and at work. I had McAfee on a system with win98 and then upgraded the os to xp and McAfee didn't like that at all. The problem with norton is it's only good for one year then you have to upgrade or buy another subscription.

Try this: Antivirus
;)

Good answer! It's my choice.

For the Windows PCs I have to take care of at work the solution is not to use them for e-mail....but use our Macs for e-mail. My boss however allows his kids to websurf on his laptop and they invariably load it up with spyware which I remove from time to time.

I installed Panda AV on his laptop a while back and wound up with an unbootable computer. I am inclined to blame that on the fact that this laptop has Windows ME on it which I think most people would say is the worst OS Microsoft has ever released. I used Panda AV on my personal Windows laptop (Win 98) for about a year and really liked it.

But, my primary defense is to use Mac OS X for all things internet and only use my Windows machine for the software that have no Mac alternatives. (Tax, Accounting, Insurance)

I am now using Virtual PC on a new iBook and it works quite well. Very well integrated with the Mac OS..can drag and drop files from Mac to Windows and vice versa, it's nice to only use one machine and be able to avoid using a Windows machine on the internet.

I tend to think of all the antivirus programs as relatively equal.

That said, I've been hanging around on the internet since 1993, and for the vast majority of that time I've never had an antivirus program. I bought my first copy of Norton this year because of the litany of problems with Outlook. If I wasn't using Outlook, I STILL wouldn't have an anti-virus program.

In roughly 10 years of Internet exporsure, I've never gotten a virus.

The best anti-virus program? A well engaged human brain.
