Kramer 0 #2 March 1, 2004 Meh...I wasn't a big fan, so it kinda sucked seeing them go 11 for 11 tonight. Congrats to them though, their hard work paid off. The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!
BikerBabe 0 #3 March 1, 2004 Fan or not, you cannot deny that the trilogy was a monumental achievement in movie-making. 7 years, three films, almost $3 billion world-wide, without being incredibly cheesy (like Titanic). No one has ever done what Peter Jackson and his crew did with these movies. They truly raised the bar.Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! Kramer 0 #4 March 1, 2004 Oh there's no question it wasn't pure excellence in movie-making. They deserved to win Best Picture. It just wasn't my favorite movie of the 5 nominated (See Lost in Translation and Mystic River). I could just never get into the whole middle-earth saga thingy...not my glass. They were damn well-made movies though. The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!

Next time a director is nominated, the first thing AMPAS members will ask when casting their vote is - "Did this individual direct three consecutive pictures back-to-back??" mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." quade 4 #6 March 1, 2004 Lost in Translation was an amazing story, for me anyway. I'm really happy it got Best Original Screenplay. It didn't really stand a chance in any other category it was nominated in because of having to compete against LOTR. I am happy Sophia was nominated for Best Director. First time for her and first time for a woman in that category -- says a lot even if she didn't win.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

quade 4 #8 March 1, 2004 Quote "Did this individual direct three consecutive pictures back-to-back??" Actually, my understanding is that it was more like 3 movies at the same time. I agree that for the director it was quite an achievement. I was not all that thrilled with the third movie (especially the overly long never seems like will ever get there ending), but if you take all of the movies as a whole, then ya gotta give 'em Best Picture.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Guest #10 March 1, 2004 Juest this one - but it's extra special because of the unusual nature of the production. It was designed from the ground up to be a trilogy. The presented AMPAS with a problem. If they awarded for the first one, it would look bad if they ignored the second, etc. By awarding for the last one, it validates all three. mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." riddler 0 #11 March 1, 2004 QuoteIt was designed from the ground up to be a trilogy. Can't wait for all three movies to be released in the extended box set DVD. I figure it'll be about 14 hours of movie watchin' - probably more than watching all six Star Wars movies.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. Quade is correct - Jackson directed all three pictures simultaneously! Nobody has ever done anything like this before. It's a phenomenal colossal achievement. mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."

Kramer 0 #16 March 1, 2004 QuoteLost in Translation was an amazing story, for me anyway. I totally get that. I was just sitting there watching that movie, completely absorbed in the story, thinking how much I would give to be any of the characters in it. It just seemed like a place I wanted to go...weird. WFFC 1 #17 March 1, 2004 Looked at as a whole, it's really one movie just like the 'original' book (not books) was. If you don't know, the LOTR was originally one book. There was not a publisher in the country at that time that could produce a book that large so he had to break it into 3 parts.----- ~~~Michael

quade 4 #19 March 1, 2004 That's funny, 'cause I was sitting there thinkin' "geeze I've lived huge portions of this". Oh, I've never been a has been movie star, but I've traveled to foriegn countries (Japan in fact) and had that sort of dazed and confused, boozy, hung over, disoriented (pun intended) feeling that everything is familiar, yet totally unfamiliar. I've had those conversations about how to do something yet the foriegn host is totally clueless. Gone out to karaoke bars and watched ex-pats make fools of themselves, had that amazing feeling of loneliness in a crowd . . . lots of what is in the film.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Kramer 0 #21 March 1, 2004 Wow, that's cool that you could relate to it so well (I think ) For me, I just fell in love with the character Charlotte. I wanted to meet her...it kinda sucks realizing that she's not real (per se). Ever since seeing that, I've been completely infatuated with Scarlet Johannson...which would get you throw in jail, but we're the same age, so it's cool. quade 4 #22 March 1, 2004 Oh, don't worry, you'll eventually meet a Charlotte . . . might not be the same girl, but you'll probably have the same feelings.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
