BBKid 0 #1 March 4, 2004 Whenever I try to download a .wmv from skydivingmovies or wherever, the same thing always happens - it downloads in about 1 second, then tells me the file format is unsupported? Anyone got any ideas??? Nick --------------------------- "I've pierced my foot on a spike!!!"

metalslug 36 #3 March 4, 2004 Many computer Operating Systems have a file association that causes them to immediately attempt to open and play files such as wmv's when you click to download them. There are 3 things to try: (1) Right-click on the link and 'Save Target As..' then play it once it's complete. (2) Use a specialised downloader program such as NetVampire, GetRight or Godzilla to download the link and play it once the download completes. (3) I may be stating the obvious, but here goes.. Update your MS Media Player. It may be having trouble connecting to Microsoft to download a codec. To my knowledge, WMV's can only be played on recent versions of Windows Media Player. They will probably not play on RealOne, Quicktime or non-Microsoft players if you happen to be using one of those as your default media player.
pilotdave 0 #4 March 4, 2004 Happens with all wmv files, or just some? Keep trying. Files that are missing from the server might do that. Which files is it? Dave
BBKid 0 #5 March 4, 2004 It's happened with all wmv's I've tried from skydivingmovies. I'm downloading the upgrade for WMP right now, but I still can't see how an out of date player would make the files download so fast. I'm talking the holiday boogie wmv (13.1MB-ish) in 1 second! pilotdave 0 #6 March 4, 2004 Yeah, that's one of the missing files. Try some of the older ones. Files uploaded around 2/23/04 will mostly be missing. Files never stream from skydivingmovies.com, so you're right, media player doesn't even attempt to open until the download is complete. It can't be part of the problem.
