jake95 0 #1 August 26, 2010 before i ask, i know i'm as new as they come and i shouldnt buy any gear until i get my license. but Man the jump suit i jumped smelled like complete ass, and the goggles i had on were so scratched i could barely see. would i look like a complete ass buying my own jump suit while i was in aff or just upon completion. i already bought my own goggles, i dont see the harm in that. wmw999 2,587 #2 August 26, 2010 Nothing at all wrong with buying your own goggles. But I'd suggest telling the DZ that their jumpsuits need washed. And if they say "tough shit," (not likely, BTW) well, it's probably cheaper to ask if you can take one home and wash it for next time than to buy one of your own. The downside to buying one of your own now is that you don't know what you're going to like in skydiving, and different disciplines use different jumpsuits; also, jumpsuits are fairly solidly customized for the individual's body weight and size. Student ones are more generic, which is fine when you're a student. You could just go to the thrift store and find some coveralls; the main purpose of the jumpsuit is to keep things from flapping around and covering your handles. Wendy P. There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. Glitch 0 #3 August 26, 2010 Most dz jumpsuits smell like ass! It's usually a requirement actually, for 2 reasons... 1) the staff doesn't have any additional work load by having to do a few loads of laundry every week, and 2) the rank helps to encourage students to pass their objectives so they can get the hell off student status! Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
