Speed Traps

Recommended Posts

With spring break kicking into high gear and the weather warming more skydivers will be out and about getting their time in the air. If you are headed to Skydive San Marcos for the first time and are coming in from San Antonio or Austin way via I-35 and highway 80 watch out for the infamous Martindale police force on highway 80. Their city limit extends for about 4-miles of highway frontage with most of it being pasture and farm land. The speed limit varies between 50 and 55 mph. They will bust you for just a couple of miles over the speed limit.Does anyone have a speed trap on route to their Drop Zone? Blue Skies and have a safe and great season.

i guess you could say we have a speed/drunk trap right at the dropzone. cops set up right at the entrance of the airport which is right by the bridge which is the only way off the island that everyone goes to party on. those cops are pretty cool seeings as how they let us go set up our chairs and sit and watch til they shut down.

I think every dz in Florida would have to answer yes to that one. I swear, there must be more speedtraps in that state than there are roads.

Same deal when I drove to DelMarVa in Delaware. The route to the shore passed through a few small towns, and they all wanted their cut out of the summer money, even if they held no attraction and no one stopped there.

I love the beach, I just hate getting there.

http://www.speedtrap.org/index.html

those buttons along the bottom of the message text box. (code, reply, etc)

The last one is url. put that at the front of the link and the one with a slash at the back.

also, the little link Get Markup Help explains it at the bottom of the page.

It does seem like most of the speed traps are somewhere along the way to the DZ. 75% of my speeding tickets since 1993 have been on the way to a DZ. I got three going to West Tennessee Skydiving, one going to Skydive Alabama in Cullman, two going to Emerald Coast Skydiving in Baldwin County, AL, and quite a few others going elsewhere. Of course, I could have just been in a hurry to get to the DZ! :D

We got a real nasty one on my way to the DZ - highway that goes 75 to 60 to 45 in the space of about 2 miles, they'll get you for anything they can.....
Don't these guys have anything better to do?? Maybe dealing with those that actually do REAL crime....[:/]

no, they weren't looking for anyone, they were looking to bust jumpers. wasn't a speed check either. that was a drunk stop pure and simple.
