Just keeps you busy and tired for 2 weeks until you get to the 3rd week where you actually jump. :D


Seriously, It's a tower that hoists you up and then drops you so you descend under the parachute. Kinda like the ride at 6 Flags. Lets you get a feel for what it's like before you actually jump. There's also a pic of the 34Ft tower. That's also a simulation of a jump. You exit the tower and then slide down a zip line while you do stuff like emergency procedures and lowering your ruck.

I can barely take it when someone doesn't like what I wear:P:). It takes all I have not to clock the bitch who opens her mouth. I don't think I would take people screaming at me too well[:/] I can only imagine how it wears on you. Got bigger balls than I do.

The rocks were ALWAYS bigger in the old days. :D I went in 96. I'll put it this way.....we graduated like 320 or so out of an original almost 400. At least half were Cadidiots. Sadly....the people I remember falling out of the runs were Butter Bar LT's and maybe one sorry ass NCO. We had 2 yes that's 2 40+ year old SGT Majors in the class. One US and the other British. They made it just fine. Lost quite a few to injuries.

Oh yeah, the old game of hurry up and wait....wouldn't want to be late to stand in any lines, or miss the chance to be yelled at.

There are times I wish I would have stuck out another 14 years and retired from Uncle Sam's Misguided Children.

My little sister could make it through Jump School these days. I don't even think of it as an advanced school anymore. It's just a "punch the ticket" school. The standards of physical fitness have continually dropped over the years so as to be more inclusive. Nowdays, it's not as much about being combat ready as it is about promotion points for those who might not be promoted as fast as someone in a combat arms unit. It's a shame.

The pictures were taken in 1974 while I was at IOBC. I did not go to Airborne School, but the wheels began turning in my head about jumping from perfectly good planes. The towers were right across the street from the BOQ.

Every day around lunch time I'd see someone make a free fall from a Huey with a Para Commander.

Pictures remind me of Basic Parachutist Course 8103 in Edmonton. Runs were easy - despite recovering from a knee injury that still haunts me today - but push-ups were exhausting. Learned a lot about push-ups and how far I could push myself physically, but only learned a little about parachuting. I soon tired of the NCO's childish games and got out too early to collect a pension.

Yep, I know what you mean. I pushed a lot of Georgia red clay! Same experience, runs were easy and the only thing i knew about parachuting was exiting the the A/C and PLF's. But, I guess that's all we needed to know. Ha! Ha!

That's about what we had. A Co also had one of the two AF Black Hats that decided we needed to sing the Air Force song in front of the entire class. It was kinda fun. I also had fun yelling "AIR ASSAULT" when saluting all the O's on Benning since I had a 101st patch on my sleeve. ;):D

I was never much of a runner. Just not built for it and I'm lazy besides. :D I was running about 1420 two mile times when I went and that first week hurt a bit. They like to SPRINT ( I mean as fast as my legs could carry me, uphill, for 250-300 Yds) on that first week and then run almost in place for the next 50 so they don't go under the "Allotted time." :D

I am a 13min 2 mile. I have been running 5-6 miles every other day. 6 miles in about 50 mins. Fromt he people who I talked to that recently went through it, they said that week 1 is 3 mile runs at 8-9 min mile paces and week 2 is 4-5 mile runs at 8-9 min mile paces, then they slack off on jump week a bit. Running is still every other day and grass drill/ calestenics the other days. WEekends off and all that good stuff.

I went through in 70. I was ruff and tough back then, and it didn't seem too difficult. I was built like string bean, and the runs were easy. I think we had to do six or eight pull ups (my memory is going on me). Nothing very hard. All in all I thought it was a great experience, and a great school. We lost several people to injuries. We had a couple windy jumps. A good friend from Texas banged his head hard on a rear PLF and ended up in the hospital with a severe concussion. So much for a steel pot saving your noggin! I sprained my ankle bad on my first jump out of a C-141. It was hard to hide my limp from the black hats, but I made four more jumps on it before going on sick call. Oh it was 8-9 when I was there too. But that was SPRINTING 3/4 of the track (Uphill part) and then damn near running in place so we didn't break the time. :D
