Hawaii and New Orleans LA

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of applying to some Air National Guard units for a flying posistion. Two of the choices are in the title.

I have done some research online about these places, but its all so....factual. If anyone has an opinion on living in either of these two locals, id love to hear it!

Im looking for a place to enjoy year-round warm weather, sunny skies, great jumping, and awesome culture/nightlife/views.

Oh, and it also has to have an Air National Guard fighter unit there. I know these two places have the latter, but im not sure about the quality of living.

Anyone wana fill me in?

Thanks a lot in advance!

F-16/F-15/A-10s are all good for me.

I know New Orleans has a fighter unit. I have also catalouged all ANG fighter units in the US. Cross checked them for location/weather/ etc and come up with these two as my number one choices.

Florida also has a fighter unit at Jacksonville with a NORAD alert detachment in homestead...they are my third choice.

Anyway...im really just looking for quality of living info for these two (or three) places :) thanks!

liek it was said befoer depends on what your flying. New Orleans is ok... i didnt like it. So i moved to Baton Rouge, about 50 minutes. Easy drive for one weekend a month... unless your fulltime guard.

neer been to hawaii but louisiana is ok. No real complaints except the humity in the summer...

I, personally, would do the Jax thing....but, I may be prejudiced, since I'm trying to get a slot at Jax in the F-15. What are they flying in Hawaii? The F-16? That's a lot of water for a single engine....and a long flight to go anywhere in an A-10..

I am sitting at the Entry Control Point for the alert detachment in Atlantic City. 40 mins away from Cross Keys;)

What could possibly go wrong?

Do you know how the alert detachment thing works? I would reeealy like to do the one in homestead. Do they alternate or what? Do newbie pilots get their choice?

Flew in both Hawaii and NOLA. Currently flying out of JAX.

Quality of life => HI, NOLA, JAX.
Quality of jumping =>JAX, HI, NOLA.
Night Life =>NOLA, HI, JAX.
Quality of people (Other than skydivers) => HI, NOLA, JAX.
Quality of F-150 Dale Earnhart rolling memorials => JAX, there is no second place.

I'm going back to HI.

If you want any other info, PM me.
