chopchop 0 #1 March 12, 2004 a couple of times in the last few months, it made people nicer to me.. First, we got pulled over in Amarillo on our way to Orlando for a tail-light issue. It took an hour as they gave us the third degree, made us sit in separate squad cars and basically shook us down. Then they searched the van. The original cop saw my gear, asked if I was a jumper, said his brothers are, and suddenly he was really, really nice and apologetic. His demeanor changed so much, I probably should have given him my USPA card instead of my DL and probably he would have just sent us on our way.. The second time was Wednesday. We had a job in Reno for Delta airlines at the Women in Aviation tradeshow. We get tere and meet the client who is pissed off at our distributor. This guy is just really, really upset. Swearing his head off. He said later that he never swears is how angry he was. Anyway, about an hour into setting up his booth, he mentions he lives in Daytona. I tell him I've been there once but have been to Deland a few times. He gets this big smile and asks if I'm a jumper. Next thing you know he wants me to call him next time I'm in FL so we can get together and do a few jumps.. and as far as the booth was concerned, we could do no wrong. By the time Plaything and I were packing up to leave, they were giving us Delta backpacks and pins. The fact that we shared the same sport changed everything about how Wednesday went. So.. it's nice to be a skydiver.. anyone else have stories like these? chopchop gotta go... Plaything needs a spanking.. Lotsa Pictures

Stacy 0 #10 March 12, 2004 one of my supervisors has done a tandem and has her pics all over her office. I forget why, but some medical thing I think she can't pursue it as a sport. Needless to say, I can always positively redirect our conversations. __
skybytch 273 #11 March 12, 2004 Quote anyone else have stories like these? Yup. Got pulled over for expired registration one time. After the nice deputy checked out my paperwork he asked about my "Skydive Paso Robles" bumper sticker. Told him, yup, I'm a jumper. Turns out he'd done a couple a few years back. Conversation ended with him saying "Get that registration taken care of. Maybe I'll see you at the dropzone someday." Another friend had the same bumpersticker on the rollbar of her Jeep. The dz we jumped at shared a hangar with a CHP fixed wing unit. She was at the dz one day when one of the pilot's mentioned that they'd seen her speeding down the highway that morning but hadn't passed the info along to the ground units cuz they recognized the bumpersticker. mfrese 0 #12 March 12, 2004 When I interviewed for my current job, I was smart enough to list my skydiving stuff on my resume. Had five different interviews in one day, all of which were about 15 minutes of work and experience related discussion, and 30 minutes of skydiving talk. Haven't talked any of those guys into jumping yet, but I'm getting close on a couple. BoostedXT 0 #13 March 12, 2004 My company that I just got hired by wants to doa weekend thing at the DZ where everyone gets to do a tandem.....except me of course. Nothing like watching your newboss shat himself. Ummm nothing super cool, but it has got me dates...lol. 1 free beer, but being a student I paid those back 10 fold. Umm......I usually get the hey....have you done a tandem from people....then when they find out I like to jump often they think I am suicidal, or they find it awesome and talk my ears off...which is cool by me.
