Signs of wear on Dacron and Kevlar lines

Recommended Posts

Dacron lines ususlly wear out first at the connector. First they acquire a black or grey residue (metal worn off of slider grommets) then the action of slider grommets slamming into steel connector links frays Dacron lines until they break.
Dacron steering lines tend to last only half as long as inboard suspension lines becasue they darken and fray where they rub on steering guide rings.
It is quite common to see brake locking eyes - Dacron lines - fray through long before there is significant wear on the rest of the line set.

Most of the wear on Kevlar lines is caused by hook Velcro (reserve container conrers) chewing on un-coated lines. Don't worry too much about wear on Kevlar lines as they were never fashionable for main suspension lines and are now only seen as reserve suspension lines (Strong tandem reserve, Swift Plus and Air Force). You will probably never see Kevlar lines worn out from too many jumps as Strong tandem reserves are limited to 20 jumps before they must be retired.
