JohnRich 4 #1 March 11, 2004 In the news (paraphrased): A high school principal has banned the carrying of bottled water by his students. Although most of the students have just water, a few are hiding alcohol in the bottles. Therefore, all students are now allowed to drink water only in the cafeteria. tinfoil 0 #3 March 11, 2004 Haha, one of my teachers use to to that, but i feel sorry for the kids that have to sit through a two hour exam and can't leave the room “- - Sumo is the greatest of sports. EricaH 0 #4 March 11, 2004 We use to carry around Snapple bottles mixed w/ vodka - made statistcs much more interesting. Seems that it'd be hard to ban water unless there's a water fountain in every room. There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear. steve1 5 #6 March 11, 2004 I've met a teacher or two who did the same thing. I would imagine it is a great stress reducer. I joke around about having a bottle hidden in my desk, but I haven't had to resort to that yet....Steve1

Douva 0 #10 March 11, 2004 Quotepretty soon it'll be easier to come up with a list of what's not banned than of what is. When I was in 9th grade, all the schools were jumping on the bandwagon of banning anything that could be construed as "gang symbols" or "gang colors." As a jab at these new rules, a bunch of us bought and wore shirts that said "Kayaking is Life" and claimed they were our "gang shirts." The shirts were promptly banned. I wanted to try to use the official school shirt as our next "gang shirt," but I didn't find much support for that idea. --DouvaI don't have an M.D. or a law degree. When I went to school, they didn't sell water in bottles, like they do now.. we had water fountains that worked.. except some had gum inside of em
bertusgeert 1 #12 March 11, 2004 Seen it all the time. In the last week of school one of my friends decided to do this, and got pretty drunk. Went to speech class, where the teacher (knowing and wanting to make a joke) asked him to do a tounge twister, and he cannot sit down until he did it fully and correctly. It was one of the funniest days in HS. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
skymama 37 #13 March 12, 2004 I managed to live through High School with no soda machines, no fast food choices, no cell phones, no laptops, no mp3 players and no wearing of shorts or flip-flops even though I went to school in FL. When I was in school, we could have had water bottles, but they hadn't invented pockets yet for us to put them in, and our books were so heavy they required both hands to hold! So no water bottles where I grew up. (Also, it could have been that for the 10 months of the year school was in session, if you got thirsty you could just open your mouth and look at the sky.) -=-=-=-=- Pull. JohnRich 4 #16 March 12, 2004 Now french fries are being banned: "First, politicians started calling them "Freedom Fries." Now school district officials are banning them on some campuses. The lowly French fry can't get a break these days. "In an effort to battle the bulge, Brevard County School District officials are removing potato slices seared in vegetable oil from Satellite High School's lunch menu Mondays through Thursdays. Students say the mandate is hard to swallow. "'Our country was founded on freedom of choice,' said 18-year-old senior Royce Gillham. 'I don't think they have the right to tell us what we can and cannot eat. They're already taken away so much, and now they're taking away our French fries...'" It's a question of basic human rights! Next thing you know, banks will refuse to put out free hard candy for customers. If we lived in a _real_ democracy they would never dare to take away our candy. skymama 37 #19 March 12, 2004 QuoteNow french fries are being banned: Horray! Have you looked at teenagers today? A vast majority of them are overweight! They got that way from having too much fast food and sodas. It wouldn't hurt them to eat a few carrot sticks instead of the fries. They should elimate all of it from high schools. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
ChasingBlueSky 0 #21 March 12, 2004 We were never allowed to carry water, gum, candy, food, etc....and book bags were not allowed either. It was a big deal if you were sick and the teacher allowed you a glass of water at your desk. Why do kids need this stuff in class?_________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... JohnRich 4 #22 March 14, 2004 It's important to teach young people that things can be banned from them, even though they aren't misusing those things. It's a good lesson in life, to show them that just because of a few bad apples, that everyone deserves to be punished. That way, when they grow up to be adults, they'll be more accepting of government control and intrusions in their lives. Another good lesson is that no one deserves to have anything better than what we had when we grew up. By gosh, everyone should always have to live the same way! Anything else is unfair. Then we can all live happily ever after, knowing that Big Brother is taking care of us, and that we no longer have any need to be personally responsible for our own actions. But come on - it is school! Go and get an education, do the rest outside. I don't see how focusing on safety for the kids and their education is going to hurt them. How about a reality check here. Don't like it? Then home school. Personally speaking - the more I studied, the more aware I became of my surroundings, the government, etc._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
