rmsmith 1 #1 March 15, 2004 It has been many years since I've had a steel pot helmet on my head, so I have to ask: What is that thing the grunts have on front of their helmets these days?
osuskydiver 0 #2 March 15, 2004 are you talking about the NVG mount on the front of our Kevlar Helment? By the time you read this you have already read it.
rmsmith 1 #4 March 15, 2004 Quoteare you talking about the NVG mount on the front of our Kevlar Helment? I suppose that means Night Vision Goggles, right? The only night vision gear in my day was a rifle scope device, and it was not worth a nickel past 100-meters either.
freeflir29 0 #5 March 15, 2004 Yep.........There are several differen't mounts that are used. One for the PVS-7? Whatever model is out now. Another for a Monocular that seemed to be quite popular with the 82nd and some of the "High Speed" troops. You also MUST have glint tape and the glow stuff on the back. The "new" Kevlars look nice. I got out in 2000 but I saw a friends that was with 1/75. Looks MUCH more comfy!!!!!!
osuskydiver 0 #6 March 15, 2004 QuoteLooks MUCH more comfy!!!!!! Yeah....LOOKS is the key word. Actually they are not bad if you do not have them on for long periods of time, after awhile gets annoying and uncomfortable By the time you read this you have already read it. pajarito 0 #8 March 15, 2004 We rarely wore them unless we were doing raids but they've got a new kevlar helmet now called the MICH. Modular Integrated Communications Helmet. It's very comfortable and has lots of real padding. It's a little more streamlined than the old Kevlar and sits a bit higher on your head. Doesn't cover as much of your ears. BIG improvment. slug 1 #9 March 15, 2004 I tried on a "steel pot" for about 5 seconds. Way to heavy But if a person needs a brain bucket in certain situations I guess it was better than not having one. The bucket or the brain. R.I.P.
