TheBile 0 #1 March 16, 2004 I have no fear or anxiety driving down the Motorway at 80mph without wearing a seatbelt, but I DO have it for jumping out of a plane. Why can't I transfer my "No worries" approach to driving over to skydiving ? I'm afraid of a double mal and going in hard, but I'm not afraid of a blowout and going through the windscreen. I'm aware about the level of responsibility you take for yourself and others around you on a skydive but do not feel that same level of resonsibility on the road. What gives ? Is it because driving is much more familiar and commonplace or something else ?Gerb I stir feelings in others they themselves don't understand. KA'CHOW ! eeneR 3 #2 March 16, 2004 QuoteWhy can't I transfer my "No worries" approach to driving over to skydiving ? Well think about this, would you want joe blow behind you that wasnt wearing a seatbelt a few people behind you becoming a projectile in a crash and breaking your neck and every one in his path as he gets tossed around the cabin????? Its not just about you, its about everyone involved. it is something that is going to anchor you to the plane and keep you from being that projectile.......and what if you were to hit the pilot? who could be in the process of recovering? now you are all dead for sure....She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto
nacmacfeegle 0 #3 March 16, 2004 "Is it because driving is much more familiar and commonplace" Thats more or less it Gerb. Consider this, two cars approach each other at perfectly legal speed limits of 60mph, closing speed of 120, they pass within a foot or two of each other. You just take it for granted that the other guy won't swerve at the last minute. Your anxiety is natural, because jumping out of planes is not...But please, wear the seatbelt. One of my pals from my yoof didn't. I occasionally pop by and take him out for a walk in hs wheelchair, feed him soup, and stuff. WrongWay 0 #6 March 16, 2004 I think only having 5 jumps has something to do with it. It takes time to develop a comfort in the sky. Still, comfort is no excuse to disregard safety. What you should do is instead of trying to become carefree in the sky, you should become more aware on the ground. Safety is everything, no matter where you are, and we stay alive because we do everything we do as safely as possible. Maybe you should stay alert, not lax on anything at all, and start wearing your seatbelt. Less car accidents = more skydives.
