Amazon 7 #7 March 16, 2004 Nice grab Wingi.. I thought about sitting in deep brakes on my reserve ride and catching my own trash earlier that morning but.. cooler thinking prevailed at the time... under a main its doable.. under my reserve... nah wasn't worth the possibilities I did manage to find Alan's Freebag and Pilot chute down a little gully about 100 yards on the east side of the airport. Good spotting skills and traingelguessing RAWK.. Hey there were not THAT many cholla out there.. now farther out to the north would be a FAR too interesting place to land....with the moisture out there the cholla cactus were really pretty and green
jose 0 #8 March 16, 2004 Hey, that was my buddies canopy. Peter Konrad. We were first 2 out of the Skyvan at Eloy for the cross country. Doing acrobatic exits. He said "as soon as I pitched, I knew I was fucked." Crossfire 119's dont like unstable deployments. Yeah, I was going to try to snag it too, but I passed it a couple of times and it was going so damn fast that it freaked me out. Thought I would leave it to someone else as I looked above me and there were 4-5 others in brakes waiting for a chance to snag it. We never found the freebag as Peter went terminal after chopping, so I never even saw it. PS.....dont go terminal, (as if I had to tell you). Owch. freeflir29 0 #10 March 16, 2004 Nice catch.......I've wanted to try several times. Always people in the way. What really pisses me off is when they fly around it 27 times and then leave at 1000Ft with nothin!
diablopilot 2 #11 March 16, 2004 While I have done it as well, I do not recomend anyone try this. I won't again It is extremely dangerous, and there is no gear worth putting yourself into an intentional wrap. I had a friend cutaway his 99 FX, and another friend went and caught it. He ended up choping his 88 FX, and both rode to the ground on their reserves to watch $5000 worth of shit flutter down to the ground. They were lucky.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I won't again It is extremely dangerous, and there is no gear worth putting yourself into an intentional wrap. I had seen it done..and the thought crossed my mind for a second or two while I was sitting there under my reserve with the freebag and pilot chute and the main all fluttering down just above me but I thought it was a realllllly BAD IDEA when I considered.. I just used my last chance and if I get an entanglement.....Nah let me just fly on over here and watch where it all goes while I set up for a nice soft landing in the landing area
Beerlight 0 #13 March 16, 2004 Nice video Wingi... You crazy f*$#r..... On a side note, I saw a guy get his leg broke doing exactly what you did.......just as he grabbed it with his leg, the canopy re-inflated....snap, pop.......
VectorBoy 0 #14 March 16, 2004 Nice snag Dave, Funny I was doing this very thing yesterday ( with no catch) when a friend had a mal. Even though I didn't get it I got some cool video for my attempts. And I had his gear in the landing area before he got there.

wingnut 0 #19 March 17, 2004 QuoteWow, that is the exact same video that was from Eloy's boogie well most cutaway canopies do look the same if they are the same color... but i can tell you this.. i know derek (hooknswoop) the guy that caught the canopy in eloy over the boogie... and the video is not of that catch...... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
Aviatrr 0 #20 March 17, 2004 Nice job dude. You can definitely tell that's not Eloy....there's WAAAY too much green grass there! It's one of those places that people dress funny and chase a ball around with a stick...and sometimes chase skydivers around that land in their field of play.. riddler 0 #21 March 17, 2004 Nice one, oh wing-meister. Has anyone thought of making this into a game? Take a large piece of fabric (not a canopy, too expensive), weight it at one end, throw it from the plane, do a high hop-n-pop and chase it to the ground, seeing how man times you can catch it. Kind of like a space-ball, but for canopy flying, instead of freefall. Problems would be safety (not getting it tangled with you or your main), and not littering the surrounding area with canvases. Outside of that, it would be a lot of fun to play around with and learn a lot about flying your canopy. Maybe you could use really bright fabric and put a strobe on the weight to be able to see it easier.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
indyz 1 #22 March 17, 2004 I heard a CRW dog claim that a large Nerf ball can be released and then caught again under canopy. Edit: link Hmm, I think I'm going to the toy store this week.

riddler 0 #24 March 17, 2004 QuoteI heard a CRW dog claim that a large Nerf ball can be released and then caught again under canopy. Good idea. Hmm - maybe tack a large loop of fabric so that it's easier to see and catch. If you're just trying to catch a plain old nerf, I have a feeling you're going to lose a lot of them when you start. Probably a good idea to clear it with your DZO too - Farmer McNasty isn't going to like footballs dropping out of the sky any more than skydivers.Trapped on the surface of a sphere.
