Conservative Group to Bring Lawsuit Against Senate Secretary Over Kerry Absences

"The oldest conservative lobbying organization in America is preparing to file a federal lawsuit against the United States Senate for refusing to enforce a legal requirement by the Senate secretary to dock the pay of Sen. John F. Kerry (D-MA) every time he has missed votes in the past year while campaigning for president.

"The American Conservative Union notes that Kerry missed a total of 292 votes, or 64 percent, in the U.S. Senate in 2003..."

Does Bush get docked for time spent campaigning? And what about his vacation time?

Quote

According to an August 2003 article in the Washington Post, President Bush has spent all or part of 166 days during his presidency at his Crawford, Texas, ranch or en route. Add the time spent at or en route to the presidential retreat of Camp David and at the Bush family estate in Kennebunkport, Maine, and Bush has taken 250 days off as of August 2003. That's 27% of his presidency spent on vacation. Although to be fair, much of this time is classified as a "working vacation."

Personally, I think it sucks that Bush gets to fly for free on his own 747 to campaign.

Still, if Kerry is not doing his job, he shouldn't get paid. Few say that Bush is not doing his job (he uses his swingin' Texas pad to meet people).

Kerry's lack of work can actually be objectively verified.

Every incumbent does that. Being President is a 24/7 job.

Hmm...every incumbent does that...I think it merited because it's in the national interest to get POTUS anywhere he wishes and to do so rapidly in some cases. The comms suite onboard also serves a purpose.

If Kerry is docked, so should everyone else who missed votes, regardless of party affiliation.

How many days did GWB spend campaigning out of Texas when he was governor?

This is just stupid.
I wonder who could be so stupid.

What's stupid, that the law exists, that there's talk of enforcing it, or that there's talk of enforcing it against Kerry?

Personally, I don't have any problem with the law. In fact, I rather like it. We've paid these people to represent us, let's penalize them for not representing us.

Now, the idea that we should enforce it against just one man, well, that's kind of silly. Let's enforce it against everyone in Congress.

Dude, Air Force One is the President's plane, but it doesn't belong to him. Any use of it must be justified, and is carefully scrutinized.

Remember the heat that Clinton got for allegeed misuse of Air Force One? I do.

While it does seem necessary for Kerry to spend time away from D.C. to campaign, it is unfortunate the person chosen as one-half of a State's representation in Senate is falling mute. That is, unless you look at it as limiting a State's voice that has seen fit to elect Ted Kennedy, which all in all is probably a positive.

Yes, but the representation is cut in half. Does Kerry vote against Kennedy?

Well, he sure votes against my wishes, but I doubt he goes against the (removing personal attack on a public figure because I hate him enough to disturb readers) that shares his state's vote.

You know Kerry was rated as the single most liberal voter in the senate?
