Austin TX: SXSW music/film festival

Recommended Posts

I've been at the SXSW film festival all week. I won't be attending the music festival because I'm not in the music business, so it's not worth the money.
I don't have an M.D. or a law degree. I have bachelor's in kicking ass and taking names.

Wish I could go, but I'm not there... :(

I've seen some of the best live music ever at SXSW. Even the local bands are always at their best for those shows. I've never actually bought one of the wristbands (so I couldn't tell you if they are worth the $), but there is so much to see even without one. Just going downtown is fun while SXSW is going on - lots of people from all over the world, and there are usually bands set up out in the streets that you can watch for free. Unfortunately, it's gotten SO big that it can sometimes be a hassle though...

La Zona Rosa is probably a good place to go, or the Continental Club (my favorite Austin bar ;). The Continental usually has bands set up in the back alley as well as in the club, but the shows in the alley are free - they're especially nice during the daytime because you can just sit on the grassy hillside, sipping on a cold one. ;) I haven't lived in Austin for a few years now though, so there are probably new venues that I don't even know about.

You should check it out, especially if you've never been... And if you do, HAVE FUN! :)
