But I have this feeling you believe the US would be the only country that would survive and the rest of the world would just crumble in that scenario. I don't define that as cutting off all foreign trade. To me it simply means not getting involved in the affairs of other countries, no matter how desperate they may be. Serbs being massacred? Not our problem. Hussein's henchmen murdering tens of thousands of people? Not our problem. Europe needs our Army's presence to deter Russian invasion? Not our problem. South Korea and Japan need our Army presence to prevent North Korea from attacking? Not our problem. Chaos in Columbia due to drugs? Not our problem. Japan and Israel need our help for their national defense? Not our problem. People starving in India without our food aid? Not our problem. As for your feeling about my belief; as usual when people try to put words in my mouth - they are incorrect.

Sure, they want our money and will be happy to continue selling us what we need, but there's not much that we produce that the world can't get from somewhere else. Uh we make some KICK ass weapons.. that we sell worldwide.. one of the reasons we get so much support from military dictatorships and monarchies like the Saudi's.... President Eisenhower warned uh when he left office to beware of the military-industrial complex.. ... trouble is no one listened... and we are the pawns in the machine that grew out of that. Would > you try to saunter by with a "look-I'M-not-raping-a-woman-why >-don't-you-be-like-me" kind of demeanor or would you say that > intervention is called-for? Intervention is called for. A good solution - stop the attacker. The US solution - shoot the guy behind you while the rapist runs away. Defend your action by saying "well, that guy behind me was unarmed and all, but he might have raped someone in the future." Then pass laws that penalize the woman; say it's all part of the "war on rape."

Nope - they want our money to badly to quit trading with us. Well, once the oil producers switch to the Euro, your scenario would backfire badly.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
billvon 3,120 #56 March 18, 2004 >Nope - they want our money to badly to quit trading with us. As supplies dwindle and China, the far East and Europe's demand increases, they will care less and less how much of their oil we buy. Imagine a Middle East like today's, but with no incentive for the Saudis (or anyone else) to do business with us.
