Guest #1 March 18, 2004 This Seattle P-I story about GIs returning from duty in Iraq is a good piece, but I'm really surprised that there weren't any 50 year-old hippies at the airport waiting to spit on them and scream "BABY KILLER!" in their faces...this is Seattle, after all. Frankly, I'm disappointed. mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."

Guest #4 March 18, 2004 Jeanne, we've been here before. I was alluding to the mistreatment that GIs returning from SEA suffered at the hands of the bleeding hearts. They didn't have it as bad as the French, though. Communists stoned the trains carrying their wounded from Indochina......(Please see "Rue Sans Joie") mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." This time around the people of this country are supporting our troops.. even if they do not agree with the administrations ill concieved adventurism. Seattle may be liberal but dude.. EVERYONE learned from the Vietnam experience... so much so that the people who cut their teeth in that era like Rummy in the Nixon Whitehouse seems to have forgotten what it was like. I remember what it was like too. Don't forget, I grew up an Army brat and then served. Yes, the libs are much smarter about it now - they're exploiting the families of KIAs by putting them in the forefront of their protests. Very clever, but even dirtier, since it's the dishonest exploiting of the grief of those families for political gain... "Have you no decency, sir? At long last, have you no decency?!" Remember that quote? mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."

Maybe we libs have simple learned to separate the message from the messanger. i.e. don't hate the troops, hate the policy. "Truth is tough. slug 1 #8 March 18, 2004 IMO the people who were protesting at the airports etc, calling the G.I.'s returning from SEA Baby killers etc, are now a lot older like the rest of us and know better. They learned their lesson and are ashamed. The military also learned their lesson, and have better control of the media thru their PIO office. The way out Gov't treated the G.I. returning from Desert Storm was a FUBAR. Gulf war syndrom? Whats that?. Exposure to WMD never happened etc. Now the PIO at the pentagon is running stories on prime time news how the VA is taking care of the the young G.I. amputee's returning from Iraq. Jessica Lynch was supposed to be another PIO success story to give the folks a new hero. From what I saw Jessica and her family wouldn't stand for it. Your right the protestors are gone, But the FUBAR of the pentagon is still alive and well. The G.I.s from Iraq & their families are still hurting. R.I.P. The PIO can do all it wants to spin things the way the administration wants. Here's what the head of the VFW told Congress on March 10, 2004 ... "In the face of these problems, we are once again dismayed with the president's wholly inadequate budget request. Not only does it fail to adequately appropriate veterans' medical care funding, it again proposes balancing the budget on the backs of this nation's veterans. The administration's proposal again shamefully calls for an enrollment fee that would greatly limit the ability of many veterans to access the system and would force many other enrolled veterans from the health care system altogether. Additionally, it more than doubles co-payment amounts for prescription drugs, and provides for a large increase in the medical care appointment's co-payment."... If you'll check other threads, you'll read that I strongly disapprove of this practice. Besides, two wrongs don't make a right. newsstand 0 #11 March 18, 2004 Didn't mean to imply "markharju" by saying "your." BTW if liberals are libs does that make conservatives cons? "Truth is tough.
