Master_Yoda 0 #1 August 8, 2010 Has anyone here ever put custom graphics on a new canopy they were buying? I was wondering if PD did it and what the cost was? The only info I could find on the subject was on this page -->http://www.americanparagliding.com/wingart.htm

theonlyski 8 #3 August 8, 2010 Its gonna cost ya, but yeah, PD will put a logo on the canopy."I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

Master_Yoda 0 #5 August 8, 2010 IF a canopy were to be silk-screened, what type of paint or ink is used? MAYBE... If I can find on old canopy that's no longer air worthy and see if using the silk screen ink (or paint) would work if thinned and applied with an airbrush. I've painted fabric before but it was cotton or spandex. And it's certainly thin enough. I've made some pretty large stencils for banners too... for rock bands in L.A. It could be fun to get a white container and paint it with the airbrush! I know that would work and would work well.
RiggerLee 63 #6 August 8, 2010 If you want it done right you'll have to sew it on. There are also issues with color. Basically you can do dark on light but not vice versa. The lighter the canopy and the darker the design the better it will show. If it's an aplikay then it can add a good deal of bulk. Every body will do it. Red at Flight Concepts does a lot of thease things. Nobody doesit cheap. I've seen it cost more then the canopy it self. I have seen people stencel designs on the bottom of F-111 canopies. Never seen it on ZP. With the right paint it can be done. It doesn't last the same way. It will wear off and as it does it's a bit of a mess and will never look as good as a logo. But when he was flying over head with his 520 tandom you could read his phone number. Up close it looked like shit though. Lee I've been searching since I posted this thread and Yeah that's about what I've come up with as well. It's not worth the added expense. It's either too bulky when packing or it cracks and wears off. The only paint I found with half a chance is this stuff http://www.dmcolor.com/products/?id=15 It's used to paint flowers primarily but some F-111 kite makers have been using it also. The big wall is the difference between treated and non-treated nylon. The treated stuff repels water, paint, ink, etc. If it was untreated you wouldn't have ZP canopies. I assume that's why tie-dyed parachutes didn't last long?
RiggerLee 63 #8 August 9, 2010 There have been print patterns avaloble in ZP for years. Remember the bat wings and monarcs from precision? But I think you have to die it before the silocone is applied. LeeLee lee@velocitysportswear.com www.velocitysportswear.com
