Cruises

Recommended Posts

I've been on Princess and Carnival. I've been to Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Venezuela, Aruba, and some other Caribbean islands.

I would love to go back to the Virgin Islands (I went to St. Thomas) because the beaches were absolutely gorgeous. However, I would also like to see something new (maybe an Alaskan cruise!) I'm really open to anything. I guess I'm just looking for opinions on what's good/what's not. Thanks for your help! Much appreciated!!!!

My advice:

Get the cheapest room possible because you really won't spend much time there, but, if you're prone to sea/motion sickness make your best effort to get one in the middle (not front or back) because there will be less rocking. The one time I went on a cruise, we had the forward most room and over night the ship was hauling ass bouncing up and down. I woke up the next morning sick as a dog.

Also, even though all the food is free, don't feel the need to eat as much as you possibly can. It's no fun feeling stuffed all day.

When we went, it was for a week and to five different islands. At each, there was something extra to do (pirate ship ride, visit volcano, etc..) that took about half the day. Then we spent the other half day on our own on the island. For us, that seemed like most fun thing to do although it's extra money.

Watch the sunsets in the ocean.

During dinner, don't stuff the napkin down the front of your shirt. :D

No matter what, relax and have fun even if all you do is sip piña coladas by the pool all day.

I've known a couple of people who have gone on Alaskan cruises, and they've all absolutely loved it! Since you've already been to the Caribbean a few times, I say go for that one. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Well then, I also know a lot of people who have enjoyed the Disney cruises (they ship out from Cape Canaveral) and also a lot of people who enjoy cruising over to the Altantis hotel in Nassau.

I'm so glad you brought up this thread because I need a little help with the cruise thing too.

Here is my situation:
I HAVE to go on a 7 day cruise for my brother-in-laws wedding in the beginning of October (so much for going to Nationals). Yes, I realize that is hurricane season, don't know if they did though. I have never in my entire life ever wanted to go on a cruise. Now I'm being told I have to go and we have to pay for it.

So now you know my attitude about this crap, I need all the warm and fuzzy's about cruising. I have 6 months to adjust my attitude and get excited about it.

The boat we are going on leaves from New Orleans, goes to Jamica, Cayman and Cozymel. Carnival Conquest.

One more problem, I also get car sick on the way to the dz and I alcohol makes my physically ill - even a little.

Help!

Judy

i took the verry same cruise in nov. of last year.
on spending money plan on 70-80$ of the top for tips(they take it out automaticly) also buy a coke card (30$) its worth it!! plus go to jimmy buffets margaritaville in jamacia!!(the water slide kicks ass!!!) and get a room near the center of the boat(less movement) one last thing you will have your picture taken by the cruise line every where you go.:S
if my calculations are correct SLINKY + ESCULATOR = EVERLASTING FUN

Carnival Sensation and Holiday are good values. Not the newest ship on the sea, but hella good food and hella good value. I ran up a $500 bar tab in a 5 day cruise...

And I never paid for drinks the formal banquet night. Wore my Mess Dress. Random senior citizens bought all us servicemen drinks all night. I dunno who was drunker, me or my friend who's a USMC GySgt....:D

Another option would be to sail out of LA and do the coast of Mexico.

Ooh, thanks for the reminder. That's definitely something I want to do while I'm living out here!

But hey, you're in Florida now... I would imagine the cruises there are even better - that beautiful Caribbean water!

The New Orleans cruise sounds really cool too... except after spending a night at the Quarter, I bet I'd be pretty damn hungover for the first day of the cruise!

A lot of people I knew in Austin used to go on the annual Blues Cruise, and apparently it is pretty fun. I guess you'd have to like good blues music though, and be in for some serious partying. ;)

The best vacation of my life ever was a cruise. A special one, but still a cruise. I'd recommend the Windjammer barefoot cruises to anyone -- sailing ships that go to tiny little islands that the big ships can't get to. You can dive right off the ship into some harbors. No formal dressing ("dress up" night means a clean T-shirt).

The one I went on was a solar eclipse cruise, so it had the added advantage of having a lot of intelligent people who were interested in something (astronomy) sharing that knowledge. Plus I got to see a total solar eclipse, an erupting volcano (Montserrat), and a whale.

I went on a "standard" cruise after that and it wasn't at all the same.

That's what I'm looking for recommendations for! :)
Right now, I like the New Orleans thing!

well lets see. Lets talk ports first. I like the western carabein more than mexico and all that. I like St. Thomas, St. martin, places like that. Small islands with great diving, and great drinks..... I have found that grand caymen or any of the caymen islands are becoming to tourist oriented. They are jut getting cheesy.

As for boats.... i am not a fan or Carnival, just to flashy, and to many kids. Royan Caribian are good boats and really appeal to all, but they are more pricy. Norwegian are good boats as well. The new one coming out is supose to be really really nice.

so it really depends on what you want and where you want to cruise out of.
