spidermonky 0 #1 March 25, 2004 I consider myself pretty conservative, but this is rediculous. http://customwire.ap.org/dynamic/stories/G/GENITAL_PIERCINGS?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=ENTERTAINMENT Quote Mar 24, 6:20 PM EST Georgia House Bans Genital Piercings ATLANTA (AP) -- Genital piercings for women were banned by the Georgia House Wednesday as lawmakers considered a bill outlining punishments for female genital mutilation. The bill would make such mutilation punishable by two to 20 years in prison. It makes no exception for people who give consent to have the procedure performed on their daughters out of religious or cultural custom. An amendment adopted without objection added "piercing" to the list of things that may not be done to female genitals. Even adult women would not be allowed to get the procedure. The bill eventually passed 160-0, with no debate. Amendment sponsor Rep. Bill Heath, R-Bremen, was slack-jawed when told after the vote that some adults seek the piercings. "What? I've never seen such a thing," Heath said. "I, uh, I wouldn't approve of anyone doing it. I don't think that's an appropriate thing to be doing." The ban applies only to women, not men. The bill has already been approved by the Senate but now must return to that chamber because of the piercing amendment. Both chambers of the Legislature must agree on a single version of a bill before it can go to the governor for final approval.

The twenty years (while applied via this goofy fucktard amendment) was designed to stop people from doing this to their daughters. It provides no exception because daughters from "old world" homes tend to have trouble saying no to mommy and daddy. Yeah, the piercing thing doesn't belong there. At least have an automatic exemption for adults.witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

The law looks to be preventing the mutilation part of this, which was custom somewhere in some country (Yeah I'm ignorant for not knowing which)...but they did some things to little girls thats just unfathomable...in an unsterile environment on top of that. I'm sure these reps weren't considering piercings because, well like the report said, the person who was pushing this was shocked about the thought that anyone would want to do something to their genitals intentionally. Welcome to the new millennium... Yup I'd think as long as they remove the ban from adults as well all should be Ok... (THOUGHT) Wait a minute...you don't think people were getting genital jewelry for their kids like some people get their baby girls' ears pierced, do you??? OMG I'm gonna pretend that thought never entered my mind...that's horrid.~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. JohnRich 4 #23 March 25, 2004 QuoteWhat the hell kind of religion would that be? Many of the middle eastern and African cultures. They cut off the clitoris of young girls, so that they will be unable to enjoy sex. It is their job to have babies, and that's all. They aren't supposed to have fun doing it. I suspect this Bill was intended to stop that practice in Georgia by people of those cultures. I agree with that part of it. However, they've gone too far if it also bans voluntary piercings done by adults for whatever their own reasons are. Info Here
Skyrad 0 #24 March 25, 2004 Bullshit There is nothing in Islam saying that a woman should be piersed or mutilated. Yes in some cultures they practice so called female circumsision but that has nothing to do with Islam. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. PhillyKev 0 #25 March 25, 2004 QuoteWouldn't this law be unconstitutional w.r.t. adults? Why? There are laws against suicide, against taking drugs, etc. Of course I think those are unconstitutional, too. But the supreme court doesn't.
