safire190 0 #1 July 25, 2010 Riggers; I have a Talon 2 T6. I have a Raven 181 reserve, however I dont have the original reserve D-bag. I do however, have a reserve D-bag for a Dolphin container and wondered if D-bags can be interchanged. It looks just like the Talon D-bag and didnt know if can be used in a Talon container. Any thoughts???
wolfriverjoe 1,523 #2 July 25, 2010 I wouldn't pack it personally. The reserve Freebag is part of the TSO'd system. Has the Dolphin bag been tested and approved in the Talon? I doubt it, in which case you would become a test pilot. Not a position I would willingly put myself in, but YMMV. RI still makes the bags. It will cost something, but having the correct bag in your reserve, which has to open when you need it to would be worth quite a bit to me."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." riggerrob 643 #3 July 25, 2010 Dolphin reserve d-bags differ significantly from Talon d-bags. Dolphin d-bags are designed to accommodate conical MA-1 springs, while Talon d-bags are designed to accommodate cylindrical Stealth springs. The springs in Stealth pilot chutes have larger diameter bottom coils, making them incompatible with Dolphin d-bags. Furthermore, Dolphin d-bags were never intended to have pilot chute springs pressing on them directly. Swapping them is a bad idea. Swapping reserve components is a complex process - involving dozens of variables - and should only be attempted by Master Riggers who understand the subtlties of both designs.
