Latest White House issue

Recommended Posts

-----------------------------
The White House today issued a new set of denials in response to a series of accusations by local government officials. Condoleeza Rice appears to be the target of these accusations, although so far she has refused to comment on them publicly.

"These charges are completely without merit, and are another example of blatant and baseless attacks by a group of people who have no reasonable argument to make," said Scott McClellan, White House Spokeperson Friday morning.

The latest furor was kicked off by the delivery of two parking tickets apparently addressed to Condoleeza Rice, President Bush's National Security Advisor. The White House wasted no time in denying the charges.

"It's absurd to claim that a nameless, faceless accuser is more credible than the National Security Adviser of the United States of America," said Dick Cheney. "It's clear that they have an agenda, and it doesn't take a genius to realize who they are working for."

Inside sources have reported that the administration is planning to make the parking ticket issue a priority in the months leading up to the presidential election. Already memos have begun to circulate with suggestions how staffers should field questions about the parking issue.

An inside source who asked not to be named confirmed that White House staffers have a new priority. "It's primarily an issue with workload," the source told reporters. "What with the Clarke-discrediting issue, the Plamegate denials and the attacks on Kerry, we barely have time to work on the real priority - the re-election campaign."

Donald Rumsfeld, the Secretary of Defense, was defensive when questioned about an earlier statement where he claimed that there were no parking-ticket issues within the administration. "Never said that, never did," he told reporters. "You might have thought I said that, but I wasn't talking about parking. I was talking about parks, a state park or perhaps, er, a ballpark. That's right, a ballpark."

The Parking Enforcement division of the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department issued a terse statement earlier today, saying only "the vehicle was ticketed twice for overlapping a marked disabled-only parking spot."
