Oh, and neosporin(sp?) isn't great for tats I've always been told (or piercings). Sounds weird, but the diaper rash cream stuff is what I've always been told works the best for the first few days.

Not entirely true. You should never use neosporin on any piercing (unless first few days of bellybutton) but it is fine for tattoos. All of mine have healed up sooner than expected, even the large one that spans rib cage to rib cage on the lower back.

Keeping a tattoo looking fresh has nothing to do with applying lotion and everything to do with applying sunblock! Using lotion when the tattoo is healing (not too much or you will fade and dull the lines of the tatt) is alright but should not be over used.

It never hurts to put it on after a tattoo is healed, it will bring out the colors temp. but will return to normal after the lotion has soaked in. Try shaving the tattoo area first and applying baby oil. That is what we all do when we show our tattoos at conventions. It makes em look real sweet!

Note to everyone :)

(so can the tattoo artist, don't be afraid to call...it's what you paid them for and it is their job)**:)

First, I am female with two tattoos:P...I have both of them on my upper ankle of my right leg...One is of a Phoenix(which I got before skydivingB| with the kanji to burn in the center, the other is a dragon/serpent that represents the north in Chinese/Japanese mythology:neither came from flash...one was designed specifically for me the other came from a Japanese anime artbook:) Cheers!!:)

Never use Neosporin or anything similar to it. Keep it clean and what I would do is after I showered, I would run very cool water over it and pat it dry afterwards and then put some Lubriderm lotion on it...Put lotion on everyday, even after it has healed...makes it look better!!!;) Cheers!!:)

Eveyone has this Neosporin myth. Neosporin has healed all of my tattoos perfectly. Small and very large pieces. You only use the ointment until the tattoo starts to peel, usually after a few scabs and excess ink come off. Then, after the start of the peel, use lotion several times a day to keep it moist but not over done. REMEMBER: lotion over kill fades lines and colors. Sometimes it can dull the colors.

I love tattoos on men especially, and on women if it's possible to hide it in pretty clothes? :P ...part of the reason I never got one myself is that I couldn't decide on a 'location' that would be showy but wouldn't stick out under a short, strapless dress...

While I was debating, I met the man that is now my husband, and tattoos on women are a turn-off for him...so I'm ink-less and will remain so! ;)

-But I still love looking at other people's. I've toyed with the idea of having a local artist do a henna tattoo on me now and then...beneifts: not permanent, and I could change the body art when I change my mind or my mood. Downfalls: have ta get them done so often, and I still don't think hubby would enjoy seeing the lil' women with even a temp tat...ah well!

Tattoos are one of the sexiest things a man can have to grab my attention, however, not if they do it because it's 'the trend of today' but if they are genuinely into tattoo art and it means something to them.

I think tattoos are a great way to express yourself and your feelings/thoughts/opinions, etc... and I see a LOT of people using it as a method of 'fitting in' or 'being cool' and I roll my eyes to that. It's one thing to get inked becasue you have a genuine love for tattoos, it's a whole nother, to get a tattoo because it's a fad.

I have 2 tattoos. One on my lower back I got when I was 17 and just got my second in May of '03, 5 years later. I love them both still and I plan on getting more, I just haven't come up with any ideas that I stick with. :|

And yes.... I dont understand why people have the understanding that neosporin it terrible for a tattoo.

IF USED CORRECTLY IT IS THE BEST THING FOR IT!

If used incorrectly, yes... it will pull the ink out, JUST LIKE ANYTHING ELSE. Im so sick of hearing people say its bad and not to use it. I have used it on both my tattoos and they healed perfectly.

Proper Care for a Tattoo:

Leave the bandage on for about 5 hours. When you take the bandage off, be sure to wash it with Dial Antibacterical soap and use your CLEAN hand, NOTHING ABRASIVE. Do not be afraid to use pressure, you need to get that goop of vasaline your artist just slapped on you. ALL OF IT NEEDS TO COME OFF. Use luke warm water and rinse it thouroughly. When done... pat dry it with something clean and soft. Take your NEOSPORIN and use the smallest amount possible to cover the entire tattoo. Spread it as far as it can go. DO NOT GOOP IT ON, THIS IS THE MISTAKE PEOPLE MAKE AND IT WILL PULL THE INK OUT. Anyway, after you have a VERY VERY thin layer of Neosporin on it your done. Re-coat it with neosporin when the old coat dries out, but do not goop it on, I cannot stress that enough. ONLY Use neosporin for 2 days.... after that, use Lotion ( good brand to use is lubriderm ) and keep it moist. DO NOT LET IT DRY OUT. If it dries out, it will scab and that too, can pull literally chunks of your tattoo out of your skin and you will have blotches. Do this til it's fully healed and your good to go. B|

Use this method CORRECTLY and I guarantee you will have a beautifuly healed tattoo.

I've got enough, well no I don't still a few more to get , but a tattoo I think should in a way be reflective of you. I would never get a tattoo design from a book at a studio or tattoo book, every other person will have the same one, and i'd never have someones name tattooed on me.
The right tattoo on a girl , awesome, definite turn on.

I have two. Both have specific meanings.
A Heart with Winds on my ankle (Heart= Love, Wings=Flying)
I got the wings when I flew my first Solo (airplane) and added the heart when I got my private pilot rating.
The other is on my shoulder. A Dove with a Rose
(Rose= Love, Dove= flying)
Got the Dove when I flew my first Solo Cross Country.. added the Rose when I passed the written exam.
I plan to get one more when I finally Solo in skydiving.
I would like something that could be added to when I get my A license...
Any Suggestions???

I got my first tattoo last year. I love it. The tattoo artist did a really good job. I would love to get one across my lower back or on my foot. Have not decided yet.

Doen't mean anything just a tribal that I liked.

you picked the wrong reason to get a tattoo. by the way....what tribe are you from :P

I dont see that as a wrong reason. the band on my arm has no real meaning... but I do associate an event/time of my life w/ it.
IMHO.

then you do have a meaning behind it, and that's cool. his doesn't mean anything, according to him. so what's the point of putting something meaningless on your body permanently? i just don't get it.

Have one from Service..86 Army LRRPs.
Since I have had it a While wish I never got it.
Tatoos are cool for a While then you get older and sometiimes they start to look like Crap. Its Costly to get one removed not to mention hurt...for Me it seems to be a trendy thing for many people. If you know you will always like it and take care of it then get one. If not sure dont do it man...;)
