It's the difference between how little children vs grown ups do it.

Grown ups use a clutch?

Joking apart rehmwa is right, there are a lot of good places out there and inner-city areas are not the place to hit three figured sums >:(

Retired people use automatics - is that close enough?

Though I was too escalatory in how I said it, I hope people look at what I said and not how. Catching flies with honey and all that - I was never too good at it.

Any of you doing triple-digit speeds on a regular basis? Do you get pulled over often? Do you have a radar detector?

yes (often close to 200kph, sometimes above, max 240)
no, got flashed by an automatic radar once though, at 142 i/o 120 kph, and at 125 i/o 80 !! this one cost me 1month without licence, 900CHF (700USD) fee, plus 200CHF to deposit the licence...
no radar detection, that's illegal in my country ! :P

I hit 115 in my 1990 Cavalier Z24. It was fun... a 4 mile strip of flat land just past my DZ. Had the undercarriage lights on too... All you saw was a purple blaze... at least that is what my buddy said. The last time I was pushing trip digits was in a Mercury Mountaineer, 90-95... then hit a deer. Now, I don't mind going 10 over, but that is the limit... until I pull out my motorcycle...

03 Ninja hit 110... then slowed WAY down... Road rash would have hurt...B|

Oh, had a '95 Lexus ES300 over the century mark... before I had the Mountaineer...

I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it.

my 60 year old father is not retired yet... :P
why would you need an automatic... oh yeah... and why would you need a steering wheel in a country where you only have 90degrees turns :P:P just a button to turn left, another one to turn right...

Its kinda dumb to admit doing tripple digit speeds in a public forum. Its even dumber to post photo's of it... remember the story behind this video where the driver was convicted off the evidence of the video alone.

Of course now, I have never taken my car up to freefall speeds, let alone freefly freefall speeds on the open road. :)

i heard that story too, and at first was of the same opinion as you, but then i recalled that on the very same day the GPS also showed another figure for max speed - 388km/h!! my car, or pretty much any other (ok Lambo maybe but i'm not a lucky owner), doesnt go that fast. So thats just an error caused by inaccuracies of the gps locating itself... same could be with my 195. so that pic doesnt really prove anything methinks:)

A video is another story... it's possible to simply pace the car as it passes an object whose length is well-known. BTW do you have a link to that video story?

There are pairs of stars that orbit around each other, can't think of what they are called. What if we went there and the gravitational attraction was like where 2 magnets come together and the pull is sideways?

Instead of being pulled to the surface, you were held in between. I'm thinking only skydivers could handle it. Step out the door of your house and fly down the road to work. B|

I hit 165MPH(on the speedometer anyway) in my 1998 Eclipse GSX and still had a few rpms left when I stepped off the gas. It had 3" exhaust, 550CFM "Big" 16G, HUGE FMIC, 720 CC Injectors,...blah blah. And not a single sticker or body mod. 12.2@114 MPH in the 1/4th.
