Skydive Chicago's Spring Expo

Recommended Posts

what does that mean James?

The Expo was great! John - you did a great job on the exit seperation seminar and I don't see how anyone could listen to it and say how freeflyers could go out first or how the 45 degree rule works. BTW - I heard a swooper give an excuse that freeflyers should get out first so they can have better swoops and dzo's would see it's the right thing. [:/]

Bill Booth and John LeBlanc's talks were fantastic! No matter how many times I hear those guys talk, I learn something new each time. The great thing? I heard everyone asking them the same questions all weekend long, and they were as energetic and stayed long after every seminar talking to the straglers.....and then John gave an impromptu packing lesson after the day ended on Sat.

Had a chance to look at a Katana 97 and watched a 107 in flight. After talking to John and J - I can't wait until they finish up the 150 so I can jump it! It sounds like the 135 is further along than the 150, and they will be done when they are done.

Had a chance to talk to Aubrey and I am very curious to try the Vision now.

Freefall Accessories are a nice group of people with custom faces for their Altimeters. On top of that, the "Inversion" model has been designed to work better while freeflying.

And there was a lot more that happened as well....

I'll have some pics to post later.

Now. Who stuck around and heard the secret news for Summerfest????:o Rook. Sign me up!

Yah...it was good. I only wish that I could've been there on Saturday, too, but I had to work. :(

At least I won a $5.00 gift certificate to the Ali Bear Cafe! :D

P.S. - The Summerfest secret: I think Andy and I will watch the first load from the ground. I wonder if there would be a waiver especially for that type of "aircraft"?

I can only say that plumbing impresses some people more than others and I hope to see them on the freefly mats once they finish their BASE training.

What? You've never seen people exiting a trailer before? Wonder what kind of altitude we are going to get? Gives a new meaning to the phrase "Door!" when it's from a trailer.

Yes, it was very good. Even if some was a bit dry, I always (well, the 2 times I've gone) learn something. I'm so greatful to those excellent people, high up in the industry for taking the time to come up from their typically southern homes & share with us in the cold.

At least the weather wasn't too bad.

And, I got to meet some poeple too, which always rocks!!

Val & Rehmwa, you should've come!

Good to meet diverdriver, eeneR & MissImperfect!

I wonder how big the trailer is going to be...and how many people it will hold. And how do you rig it up with seatbelts? More importantly, will it be decked out in kitsch decorations, like rope lighting strung across the roof? ;)

Oh, yea, I met him too... sorry, I don't know.

Kallend, I figured out who you are & I believe I did a jump w/ you in Dec of '02.. but am sure you wouldn't remember me. It was me & another girl, both of us with less than 50 jumps - needless to say, we didn't get any points in [:/].

But did you land safely and have fun?

Does anyone know if Indyz made it home alive??

Not dead! It took me 3 hours to go 115 miles in the rain. I'd rate the trip Scary with occasional bursts of Fucking Terrifying. Hooray for hydroplaning. :S

I had a great time at the Expo. Finally got to make a jump at SDC. John LeBlanc's and Bill Booth's talks were the standout for me, but every talk I went to was very good.

FWIW, I met a good bunch on Saturday and thought my prompts might elicit names. They were visiting from Tecumseh, at least I think it was that, on their way out west for BASE. I’ll see them at Summerfest, said they’d return for the world class “facilities” (which were practically sterile btw).

I appreciated the industry people sharing their knowledge with us. In particular John LeBlanc spent at least half an hour jawing with me about canopy design and the Katana.

Didn’t make it out on Sunday, my loss. I got stuck indoors spectating at the gorgeous weather, at least it was so in the city.

But it’s early.

SDC was too far for me to drive with a broken ankle, and the person that was supposed to take me, ditched me. Oh well, see ya this summer for some HD action. :)

Yes, landing was safe, though fairly far away. Fun? Well, falling through the sky was always fun, the actual dive thought, was a bit dissconcerting. At least it was outta the Cessna so not too many people observed it.

MissImperfect, thank you :$. Yes, the people @ SDC are great, Missy & Rook are amazingly nice!! And they put on such a great event.

Awwww, you are going to make me blush, which I do quite easily.:$

Look forward to seeing you again in the future.

BTW, any stories of my supposed drunkeness on Sat. evening are probably being blown quite out of proportion.:)

OMG! I just about fell out of my seat laughing my a** off when they announced that! How cool is that going to be?! I'm with you though -- maybe I'll watch the first one before I manifest ... ;)
What a great bunch of seminars this weekend. Kudos to absolutely everyone involved in pulling this off once again.
