JohnRich 4 #26 March 30, 2004 QuoteI really wish the RIGHT WING would decide if they want a Police State or not and just get the hell on with it. Most of this crap has been put in place by conservative politicians.. are you really surprised when the police actually use the powers they have been gioven under the Patriot Act et al. F#$$@ bunch of hypocrites These kinds of searches have been going on for many years. It was happening long before the Patriot Act. It happened long before Bush was elected. It is not just a conservative thing. Don't look now, but your bias is showing.
benny 0 #27 March 30, 2004 QuoteIf you're not doing anything wrong, then what's the big deal? I'd say, "sure, you can do a search. While you're at it, could you scare my kids enough to turn off the lights when they leave a room?". So you have no problem with Barny Fife coming in to your house, searching high and low, in your couch cushions, through you panties etc.... for no reason at all? This shit is ludicrous. Living in a police state is not what the founding fathers wanted. We need to stand together and fight this stuff, whether it's drugs or guns they are looking for, they should not search without probable cause, and last time I checked using electricity was a normal activity. Never go to a DZ strip show.
Amazon 7 #28 March 30, 2004 AS part of the War on Drugs.. hmmm now just WHERE did that start... you continuously post these threads about loss of personal freedoms but march in lockstep to a supposedly conservative administration that has done more to remove personal freedom than ANY in the history of this nation. Most of it HAS been put in place by conservatives in the guise of fighting crime. Now can you blame police when they actually USE the powers bestowed on them? I guess you think its ok as long as its THEM .... who are surveiled and arrested for things not intended originally when the "protections" were put in place... but when its YOU who they come for.. who then will protest the abuse? kallend 2,159 #29 March 30, 2004 QuoteIn the news: "When police noticed Dina Dagy's family was spending $250 to $300 a month on electricity, they suspected a marijuana farm was flourishing under high-intensity lights inside their suburban home. "What they found when they showed up with a drug-sniffing dog and a search warrant was a wife and mother who does several loads of laundry a day, keeps a dishwashing machine going, has three electricity-guzzling computers and three kids who can't remember to turn the lights out when they leave a room. "'It's hard to believe a high utility bill would be enough to issue a state warrant,' said Dagy, who is demanding the Police Department issue a written apology. "Authorities say they have already apologized verbally several times and were only following proper procedures. Tracking down marijuana growers by reviewing electricity bills, they say, is a common practice." Full Story I fail to see what business it is of the government what crops householders choose to grow on their own property. Get rid of the silly "war on drugs" and all this crap will stop too. Then all we'll have to worry about is BATF SWAT teams breaking in to search for illicit model rocket motors.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. Bzzt. Incorrect. There's no marching in lockstep on my part. The fact that I'm making these posts demonstrates that I'm concerned about these issues. And you sure don't see me speaking out in favor of such measures. Once again, your bias is showing.
