Places to look for speed traps?

Recommended Posts

I'm driving from Chicago to ZHills next weekend by way of Louisville, Nashville, Chattanooga, Atlanta.

Any obvious places to expect speed traps? I know Georgia south of Atlanta is usually bad.

The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

Yeah, right on. Watch out especially for Henry County, GA. It's probably 30 miles or so south of ATL. I recently drove from ATL to Dublin, GA (ROAMINGDZ BOOGIE!!!), and 3 of the 4 speed traps I saw were in Henry County. There was no need for the radio - the radar detector was providing more than enough musical entertainment.

I am from Chattanooga, and Monteagle Mountain is notorious for speed traps. It is northwest of Chattanooga as you are coming in from Nashville. When you see the signs for the University of the South, slow down.

I basically went 90+ almost the whole way there over 20 times.

That said, my parents use to drive truck that way & said that Macon & some other town that has huge billboards for a carpet outlet? are the worse.

Have fun. If you have a manual shift car mount eagle is a blast!! Otherwise watchout for the trucks!

There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear.

Macon IS bad. I got one of my speeding tickets in Macon. And I think the other place Erica's referring to is Dalton (as in Carpets of Dalton-- that's all they have there), but that shouldn't be on your way. Just don't go more than 10 over in GA. Only State Troopers can get you for going less than 10 over, and they (usually) don't put forth the effort. :)

Yea, Anything south of Atlanta is bad, Macon and Valdosta seemed to be the worse.

Also, the GA cops seem to work in tag teams - one on the bridge with a speed gun who radios to his partner at the end of the entrance ramp. Watch your speed at every bridge - I forgot to once and they got me. $150 for 87 in a 65.

BTW - there was a good deal of construction south of Macon.
