WrongWay 0 #1 April 5, 2004 Okay I just had to share this. This weekend I went down to Alabama to visit some old friends, and on my way home I had a pleasant first flight, until we were ready to leave the plane. The flight attendant was young, about my age, and he was clearly new cuz he seemed a little nervous the whole flight, and was reading the instructions for takeoff from a little sheet. I was sitting at the very front of the plane, right up by him. Good flight, quick, effective, peaceful, and then we land. They pull up the little steps (it was a small plane), and the FA was then instructed to wait for a "thumbs up" signal before he's allowed to let the passengers off. Well, there was this asshole about 2 people behind me standing around with some of his buddies. He was about mid thirties I'd guess, your typical "spoiled golfer" in a sense, khaki shorts, golf shirt, a big bald spot, and an "im the king of the world" attitude to match. He keeps ranting very loudly and openly about how this was bullshit and this asshole needed to let us off the plane so he could get to his next flight. He went on like this for about ten minutes, throwing in very plain personal attacks on the guys job, his looks, everything he could find. Naturally I was getting pissed, and I should have said something earlier, but then he included me (since i was standing next to him). He turned to his buddies and said "Come on guys, lets rush these little punks and get off this plane." Without missing a beat I turned around and said "If you wanna rush me, you can feel free to, but I guarantee you'll be leaving this plane with a broken nose." And as I looked at the shocked face following this comment, I followed up with "By the way, being an asshole won't get you off the plane any quicker." Lots of people laughed, a bunch clapped, and the FA shook my hand and said "Thank you" with a smile. He didn't say another word, and we got off the plane just a couple minutes later. And for what it's worth, I had 20 minutes to get on my next flight, which was in a different concourse and I managed to get there and treat myself to some California Pizza Kitchen before I was boarded, so I'd like to know what this guy's rush was. That seems like an incredibly stupid thing to say in this post 9/11 world. I'm actually surprised they didn't call the police. --Art

And yes, some of the things he was saying were very stupid. He was talking about how the FA liked thumbs up his ass (cuz he was waiting for a thumbs up, get it? haha ) and how the new security was a joke and an inconvenience. I'd like to have punched him, but seeing the look of surprise on his face was much more rewarding. Besides, I'm not the violent type. rehmwa 2 #6 April 5, 2004 It's amazing how flights bring out the worst in many people. Also surprising that security wasn't called anyway for someone making threats to the FA/CSR - even if it was just an asshat making impotent little cracks. ... Also surprising that security wasn't called anyway for someone making threats to the FA/CSR - even if it was just an asshat making impotent little cracks. If there's only one FA on board (which it sounds like this was the case) then he might not be able to get the flight crews attention to call authorities. Also, being new (which it sound like this was the case) he might be hesitant to have someone arrested while still on probation. Sucks, but that's the likely scenario. It's not till you been around a few years and get jaded that you stop putting up with crap like this. I had two passengers fight on one of my flights and I had cops waiting at the gate to take them away in hand cuffs. I almost diverted but it would have been the same amount of time to go on to destination as to put down where I thought I could go. That's a bit different situation than being at destination with the door off and just wanting to get rid of them. They aren't gonna be able to do much to you. Now if he had shoved or brushed up the FA as he left I would have had him arrested as that is assault. Doesn't matter what part of the flight it happens. bvsdjumper 0 #8 April 5, 2004 Ok, that makes sense. Do you think a more experienced FA would have called the cops? --Art

I can understand that passengers get frustrated and annoyed. Last commercial flight I took required changing planes in Phoenix. It took 35 minutes waiting at the ramp before they managed to find a jetway operator so we could get off! That is just plain old bad management.... Aviatrr 0 #10 April 6, 2004 On a flight that I was on last Wed, there was a woman that was getting pretty unruly....refused to sit down(just minutes from landing) when the FA's told her to...and continued to berate another passenger she thought was being mean to her sister(they were both drunk, and very loud). After it escalated a little bit, and the woman told an FA "don't make me teach YOU a lesson too", a couple of us started to get up....when....lo and behold....a guy flashes an FBI ID and a pair of handcuffs...and the bitch sat down and didn't say another word... They should make a movie about this incident just so they can use that quote right there. I can imagine Bruce Willis or someone slowly turning around and muttering that to the dude who played Shooter McGavin on Happy Gilmore. Hehe... The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!
