bertusgeert 1 #2 April 6, 2004 Dude, that is crazy. You always hear of chernobyl. It s good to know what it looks like, it was very informative as well. Pretty insane, i wouldnt even go close to there. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
ryand96 0 #3 April 6, 2004 Very intense. That definitely put me in a sobering mood. I couldn't even finish reading the whole thing. It was a little too much to take in all at once. I can't believe that someone would be so fascinated by that disaster that they would expose themselves to those kind of radiation levels. I have to agree. It definitely makes you think. Rebecca 0 #4 April 6, 2004 Wow. That was incredibly sobering. They (under communist rule) didn't even tell the firefighters, cops, and helicopter pilots what kind of disaster they were rushing in to fight - they all just dutifully headed straight into the gamma inferno and died. They didn't tell the citizens of Russia that anything had even happened at first. The last pictures are the most wrenching. I was eleven years old when that happened, but I never really knew just how insanely horrible it was until now... you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk? billvon 3,107 #7 April 6, 2004 Yep. It's amazing, but that whole area is now one of the most ecologically diverse areas in Russia. Odd that people seem to be more of a danger to plants and animals than high levels of radiation.

mailin 0 #9 April 7, 2004 FREAKY! Reminds me of a trip I took last Thanksgiving, out to Centralia, PA. I've got some amazing pictures, but many are similar to the ones you'll see on this site: http://www.offroaders.com/album/centralia/centralia_07102003.htm Its true about the smell I couldn't get it out of my clothes for days. Hubby and I spent a good hour hiking around the hills and collecting gas and ground sample for our own tiwsted pleasure. Eerily similar, unforunately.
