Targets of opportunity. I've known of a few adults, but no kids. The adults were swimming at night in a known area or swam right into one while snorkelling. A few golfers get nibbled occasionally. There is an alligator somewhere on every golf course in Florida. (Not an exaggeration)

Dogs like to bark. They come down to the waters edge and get nabbed. Larger dogs wade out, the gators lure them out and then come in underwater. They grab a leg and twist their body and drown the dogs. Dogs are easy to catch when compared to wild birds.
