Radio Controlled Skydiver?

Hey all, I saw a radio controlled skydiver on here a while back, and was interested in finding the link again, I searched for it, but came up missing. It was a couple of guys in Europe, and I believe they had produced a scaled copy of the stilleto.

I've seen them for sale in model shops for about £100. seen one dropped from a radio controlled bomber at about 1000 feet as well, got a bit of freefall time before pulling the pin and riding down, looked like a 7 cell main with a spring loaded pilot chute. and steered by radio controlled arms that pulled the bracke toggles, pretty fun bit of kit!!

I dropped a couple for Kelly Farrington (Velocity Sports Equip - Infinity, when he was too young to jump). He had sewn the canopies himself, equipped with old Para-Foil type spider slider reefing connected to the pilot chute.

From a distance, they look very realistic when they malfunction, and can get whuffos at a distance to call 911.

They are heavy...So it takes a big beefy plane to take them up.

We had one at a club I fly at that almost always burned in...Until I bent the pins that keeps the pack closed. Now he lives.

So i can take extra weight up on my foam wings ( Zagi type planes) How hard is the release mech to invent ? Need another servo or could i just barrel roll til he bails ? Is this thing thing just another pain in the butt and wallet ?

Uh he is REALLY big and heavy. Like almost 2 pounds I think. A Zaggi does not have the power.

We use a Giant stick with a G-62. We have used a regular .60 stick...and it worked...but not well. And a .40 sized Cub with a 60 two stroke on it.

Depends on how you make it....I would use a servo to release him personally with a rubber band to hold him on, and keep the pack closed till he is released...If the chute opens and gets caught on the tail...Well its not as bad as the reall thing, but you are going to be building another plane.

The hobby-lobby one weighs 2 lbs. ? Damn . I guess i'll stick to swoopin the parking lot with the Mini Speed Wing.
Best foamie around. 100's of flights (and crashes) for $40. + gear. Wish we could have "combat time" on those weather holds. Need more jumpers to buy a foamie for combat. Even those hand launch ones would be fun.

The hobby lobby one is 10" tall and weighs 6-8.8 oz.

The better one is about as tall, but has arms and is made of fibreglass.

We used to have a bunch at Zhills. I flew my UCD .46 3D plane at the DZ a few days ago...And I have flown a 1/3 scale Pitts at the DZ.

Whoa THERE'S a blast from the past! Yeah, I made the spider slider mostly to retract the pilot chute and reduce drag. I also deployed the parachute with a diaper, using the "o rings" from water ballons as rubber bands I want to build another one one of these days, just need to fabricate some time
