blueskyserenity 0 #1 April 8, 2004 And in about 30 minutes I have to let one of the 47 go. The official announcement was released earlier today and this individual has already commented "I hope I don't have to stand in line at the soup kitchen". I had to act like I knew nothing. Budget cuts suck ass. What sucks more is that we're laying off people who have crappy salaries anyway. I don't understand how we're saving any money. People make fun of state employees, but losing your job is losing your job. This will probably be one of the hardest things I've ever done...I like coconuts. ACMESkydiver 0 #2 April 8, 2004 I'm sorry you have to do it... My boss must have felt the same as you when he told the 14 of us we were gone. He was in it with us, however, so we can all sigh together... Be a GOOD reference for that person and they will appreciate it! ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
TomAiello 26 #3 April 8, 2004 No way. Serious? This will be the topic of discussion at my house tonight. My wife is a UGA alum, gives money, etc. In her words, she "bleeds red and black." Major vibes for you. Getting laid off sucks. Having to do it sucks, too. Do you have any details, or news links about layoffs at UGA? Thanks.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
rehmwa 2 #4 April 8, 2004 I've been on both ends of this a couple times each. In every single case, so far, it's turned out better for all of us. It was still very tough at the time. Be as helpful as the company policy allows. Be a good reference if they were a good employee. It helps them both personally and professionally. ... kelel01 1 #5 April 8, 2004 Marianne, That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that you have to do that. Here's some ((((((((((((((((((((((VIBES)))))))))))))))))))))) for you, all the people who are being let go, and all of the people who have to inform them. blueskyserenity 0 #6 April 8, 2004 UGA News on www.uga.edu. Most of the details. One lady at an off campus location today went into seizures, stopped breathing and almost died when my boss told her. Very scary stuff. High administration has no idea how much this decision will effect the lives of these people. She really almost died. I'm super freaked out. My boss was in tears, manly man. I'm speechless... Thanks for the vibes. Still sucks. Their reason for today was legislation was over yesterday so people couldn't complain to their representatives. Did not balance the budget so special session here we come. They can spend $44,000/day for a special session, but we're laying off people w/ an annual salary of $20,000. Makes a helluva lot of sense to me.I like coconuts. You can break them open and they smell like ladies lying in the sun!
kelel01 1 #7 April 8, 2004 Michael Adams is a sack of shit. Dumbass can spend $300,000 to redecorate his office, and then something like this happens . . . and his wife gets a $30,000 a year allowance.
