DJL 235 #2 April 8, 2004 Hey Rhino, I'm thinking of a symbolic representation of a service member from each branch together folding an American flag. Is color allowed?"I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
sburkart 0 #3 April 8, 2004 If you're looking for the obvious, I'd say combine their logos' in some way. Things like this is why I'm called the master of the obvious, BTW. The tops of these pages have service logos: http://www.usmc.mil/ http://www.af.mil/ http://www.army.mil/ http://www.uscg.mil/uscg.shtm The Navy home page does not, though I imagine you could find it somewhere in there. Someone should tell the Navy that using a Java app for menus is bogus with a slow connection...
rhino 0 #4 April 8, 2004 It could be color.. But remember it is going to end up being in stone also.. Probably better in greys? Don't you think?
DJL 235 #5 April 8, 2004 Combining images results in something that looks like a bad coat of arms. It's better to keep them separate or create a different type of symbol. Rhino, I found something of interest. Each fold of the flag represents something: "The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks who gave a portion of life for the defense of our country to attain a peace throughout the world." I'm sketching the flag drawn vertically on the third fold with the symbol of each branch along the sides. This could easily be done in stone since it depends more upon shape than color."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

DJL 235 #7 April 8, 2004 Hey, here's a "copy and paste" representation of what I'm thinking. The points that I think are important are: -Dimensions of the flag to be official and to be the same as if it were on the third fold. -Historical accuracy of the 5 logos. -Accurate dimensions of the logos. -Simplification of the logos. -Text type. I'm not a very good artist so I wouldn't take the sketch I come up with as gospel but if you're interested in the concept then you're welcome to it. Edit to add .jpg's of sketch. Will talk to you soon. Yes everyone, I know that my eagles look like Toucan Sam boffed a chicken. I have some more artistically inclined friends working on it."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
DJL 235 #9 April 10, 2004 If by interesting you mean that it looks like someone's kid drew it then yes, interesting. I have a couple of friends who are great artists and told them about what you're trying to do. We'll see if they have anything creative or can give a third dimension to my drawing. I was also thinking about just five sets of hands folding the flag. Unfortunately, I draw hands worse than birds."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
