jumperconway 0 #1 April 7, 2004 Just curious because I PM'd and the bogus jump # was corrected although I was told to just leave it alone. Tried to correct-credibility spelling but can't
Nightingale 0 #2 April 7, 2004 if it bugs you, send them a PM. It might be a typo. My profile, for a day or so, said I had 110 jumps when I actually had ten. Typo. Someone sent me an email, and I fixed it right quick.
Slappie 9 #3 April 7, 2004 Ok before this goes any further and Conway's ego gets any larger.. I had mine set at 200+ I have not made 200 I know it was a bad desion on my part, but hey I wanted to fit in.. I've only done 58 jumps (logged).. I've since corrected it because Conway took it upon himself to hold me to task. I have a signed off A card, but I never sent the money for the A to get a lis. because I was going to wait and get my B jumps in and send off for the B. So you'll see a ( =P ) it's its place. I quit jumping about 2 years ago. I asked Conway to drop it and leave it be, because I'm not out giving instructions or advice here on DZ.com and I normally dont' even surf the "skydiver related" forums. I just wanted it to look a bit better in my eyes. I know this is pretty trivial to you all, but I figured before Conway and his ego got to spewing I better clear it up. lummy 4 #4 April 7, 2004 I think it would depend on the situation. If it looked like the person was intentionally inflating the #'s and running around giving advice on how to hook turn, then I'd be yelling BS from Announcements to Error and Bug reports. If it were someone that's been around awhile, and it just looks wrong, I'd probably just PM them...I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. Very well put! I agree here. At the same time, I would send a PM to someone and check to make sure it wasn't a typo as mentioned before. karenmeal 0 #12 April 7, 2004 You can actually skip all the liscenses, I've only got a D liscense.. no others. You just have to meet all the qualifications and take all the tests for each liscense, but don't have to pay for all of them. Just have an instructor stamp your card and that counts as an A liscense without you having to pay any money. But back to the thread, I think it is ridiculous to lie about jump numbers! If you don't feel like you have enough jumps to "fit in"... then just leave it blank! Most of the people on here have less than a hundred jumps anyways... everyone fits in. If you want to point a finger at the people who don't "fit in" it would be those crazy mofos with over 5000 jumps! weegegirl 2 #14 April 7, 2004 Having jump numbers displayed may make people feel self-conscious, but by no means gives them the right to inflate their numbers. I would not call someone out on it, but if I knew that they had lied, I would see that that person is insecure and untrustworthy. Sorry, but this sport is based on trust. If I can't trust someone to be honest with me in a social setting, I would never trust them around me in the sky.

Slappie 9 #17 April 7, 2004 Ok so I'm un untrustworthy scoundrel.. It's ok I understand if people want to hold it against me now. It was a mistake and had been there before the mini-profiles went into place. At the rate I was jumping I would be past the "inflated" number. Plus.. I never thought about it and forgotten it was there, because I hadn't looked at it. The people who know me, know they can trust me. I'm sure theres are more then just one person around here whos got inflated jump numbers.. Conway, I came and outed myself, 1) because I kinda felt bad about it. 2) I figured I better do it before it was leaked. 3) I could careless what people thing about me at this point in time.. jfields 0 #22 April 7, 2004 I'd say that if people aren't comfortable putting something down, they should just skip it. It only becomes an issue if people are looking for some form of validation on skydiving advice posts, which people without jump numbers probably generally avoid. (At least the smart ones.) The skygod wanna-be's will get called out pretty quickly. People like Slappie (since you "outed" yourself already) should feel totally welcome to post, whether they jump any more or not. Having been around for awhile, you get the idea of who is real and who is trying to just portray the skygod image. I haven't ever seen Slappie giving bad or inappropriate advice to newbies or anyone else. No need to make things an issue if the person isn't misbehaving. Jump numbers are weird. People often use them as indicators of specific experience, which they aren't. Someone who has been big into 4-way RW since they started jumping generally shouldn't be giving sitfly advice. Freefliers shouldn't be doling out advice on RW big-ways. Etc., etc. Also, people progress at different rates. I'm a sporadic jumper, so a lot of my jumps are spent getting familiar with things over and over again. I don't have the currency to progress as fast as someone that got in my jump numbers in a single year. We may have the same jump numbers, but I'm not ready to do some of the things they may be comfortable doing. Whatever. FWIW, my name links to my full online jump log. People can judge for themselves.
