Mangiapane85 0 #1 July 8, 2010 I was wanting to get information on the best way to determine the proper canopy size. I was on Aerodyne's website and they had a canapy selector feature, but i wasnt able to really understand it. Obviously the size of the canopy correlates with weight and skill level, but im just interested in knowing more. And obviously yes, i am not experienced. I'm going on my first jump in less than three weeks though, so thats a plus!-FEAR IS TEMPORARY...REGRET IS FOREVER! -"People living deeply have no fear of death"- Anais Nin
theonlyski 8 #2 July 8, 2010 Dont buy gear yet, you dont even know what you want! Your gear for your training jumps should be provided and large enough to compensate for 'less than perfect' landings, once you get a few jumps under your belt, ask around at the dz as to whats a good deal and what kind of gear you should get. Take it slow, you dont want to drop a few grand on gear, only to find out its not what you want, or safe for you to jump for a while. Oh, and unless you gotta cash cow in the back yard, dont buy new, as you'll probably want to change gear in 1-200 jumps and with a good deal on used gear, you can get almost all of your money back from re-selling that gear. THEN buying what you want!"I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
Bertt 0 #3 July 8, 2010 No offense, but you're getting ahead of yourself. Your instructors will put you on a canopy appropriate for your size. Go with that and ask questions around the DZ. After a few jumps, the criteria for selecting a proper canopy will be clearer. You don't have to outrun the bear.
