freeflyfree 0 #1 April 11, 2004 Is it because of the high performance landings that we don't see them very often as we did back in the days? Felipe-- Blue Skies NO FEARS, NO LIMITS, NO MONEY... Unstable 9 #2 April 11, 2004 I have no problem with them, my last 20 jumps or so have been in Tevas. For me, they make it a lot easier to get my booties off under canopy. However, last year about this time, I went Unstable (As I often do, hence the name) from a sit and my Nike Sandle flew up and got me in the chin. Understand that they do add more risk...=========Shaun ==========
Unstable 9 #3 April 11, 2004 I would never let one of my students jump with sandles of any type; and yes; I need to set a better example if I am going to take my Instructing up a notch....=========Shaun ==========
pringles 0 #4 April 11, 2004 I used to ware tevas all the time. One day though I had a reserve ride. I chased my main down. When I was coming in for landing I thought I had picked out a great spot to land. I couldn't tell until it was too late that my soon to be landing spot was a bunch of briars. I got the main and free bag. I also had thorns in the ends of my toes for the next month. I would think I had all the thorns out then the next day I would start getting shooting pains from another one that had worked its way in a little deeper. I haven't worn Tevas jumping since. AggieDave 6 #5 April 11, 2004 I used to jump in Tevas and I used to jump barefoot, now all I wear are airwalks or etnies. Why? better protection for my feet for swooping and/or landing off. That and I do a lot of tandems, I'd rather have shoes on for those.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Paige 0 #6 April 11, 2004 I just got a pair to wear around the dz but will probably not jump in them. Comfy but I dont think my landings are up to par just yet. I also see how corn (lots of that around the home dz) could be way more painful!Tunnel Pink Mafia Delegate www.TunnelPinkMafia.com
Unstable 9 #7 April 11, 2004 I think jumping in Kansas allows me to get away with a lot when it comes to off field landings. The whole state is one SOFA.=========Shaun ==========
kansasskydiver 0 #8 April 11, 2004 i wore them on a couple jumps when i was still a newbie and they just didn't offer the protection or absorve the shock as shoes do. I've resorted to a $15 pair of fake Van's I picked up at Walmart and they've been the best shoes I've ever bought. Almost 2 years now and just use them to skydive in. Awesome ankle protection, heave and well built, soles are nice to slide out my swoops with too<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist!
RoadRash 0 #9 April 11, 2004 I need a lot more ankle protection than Tevas can offer, that is why I prefer high top Allstars....Comfy and great for FFing... ~R+R~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fly the friendly skies...^_^...})ii({...^_~...
murrays 0 #10 April 12, 2004 I've been jumping in Tevas since 1982 or 3...whenever they first came out...and still jump in Tevas.-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
cderham 0 #11 April 12, 2004 I still jump in my TEVA's whenever whether permits. I did see a buddy take off a couple of layer ofskin on the top of his foot on a swoop though. Top strap peeled it right off. Chris

ramon 0 #13 April 12, 2004 I stopped wearing them because of high performance landings (grabs water), hurts to drag toes, crashes hurt my little toes. ramon"Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.
jumperconway 0 #14 April 12, 2004 RWS will revoke your tandem rating if you jump their rig in Tevas! There was a fatality last year, I think, where the drogue bridle got caught in Tevas and ended with a double mal.
