wildcard451 0 #1 April 14, 2004 Well, I guess it is better that this happened while I am young enough to heal faster. I have the pleasure of some nice torn articular cartilage in my right knee that I am gonna get scoped in 2 weeks. While he is there, the surgeon is also gonna remove a piece of bone that has been embedded in my patellar tendon for about 10 years, due to a condition known as Osgood-Schlatter's. Here's the trick: For all the surgeries I have witnessed, I've never been under the knife. Given the population here, I figure there is a good enough knowledge base to throw this out. What all should I expect in terms of recovery time from the scoping? Doc tells me it will mainly be dependent on how badly he weakens my patellar tendon excising the bone. Anyway, chime in and gimmie an idea of what to expect! Thanks a lot everyone! Hope to be jumping again soon
KawiZX900 0 #2 April 14, 2004 I had my left knee scoped when I was 15 or 16, three seperate pieces of cartlidge... strike that. two... one particular big free floater would pop up on one side of the knee cap and I could push on it and it'd slip back under the cap and pop up on the other side. when it'd pop up on the left side it'd be kinda painfull, on the right side kinda playfull... the way they got to be freefloating was after the cartlidge was ripped the knee locked up and the DR. said ok Kyle hold your breath this is going to hurt but it will all be over soon and he yanked my knee from extreme flexion to extreme tension and WHAMMO no more locked knee but two free floater souvioneris... it was great to get them gone finally.. just started flaring up a couple weeks ago after i got my ass handed to me and my knee worked while caught under a mighty big swell down at Garbage.... Accelerate hard to get them looking, then slam on the fronts and rollright beside the car, hanging the back wheel at eye level for a few seconds. Cudlo 0 #3 April 14, 2004 Lets see here... when i was 17 i had my ACL replaced, damaged cartilage removed, miniscus(cant remember if thats right) on both sides of my left knee were torn and jammed into my joint and had to be pulled out and repaired. And all of that damage came from an accident in a mosh pit ... 2 years later when I enlisted in the Army i damaged my knee again and had a second surgery. The messed up thing is that after 2 knee surgeries on my left knee it is in fact my right knee that bothers me after several years of compensating. In any event. Be prepared for the physical therapy to be like some sort of torture camp. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard
Tink1717 2 #4 April 14, 2004 I've had two rounds of knee surgery. Expect a minimum of 6 weeks until functional again, and about 12 weeks of PT before you're back to normal. Using arthroscopy means that you won't have major incision issues but you will have the same basic recovery time as most other forms of surgery. Good luck.Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. Casie 0 #5 April 14, 2004 I had my left knee scoped when I was 16. The doc said due to me growing, becoming more active that my tissue overlapped & made my bones rub......OH and I was born with this condition apparently. I could barely jog w/out my knee popping, it was YUCKY and hurt! I was in very good shape & extremely active, playing volleyball/track/showing horses, etc. Everyone's recovery time is different. I didn't do sooo well at first. My knee stayed swollen for almost 3 months. I couldn't even ride my horse After the swellling went down, it was like I never had the procedure. I'm now 28 and even on cold/rainy days, it doesn't really bother me. Best of Luck.......keep us posted.~Porn Kitty WARNING: Goldschlager causes extreme emotional outbursts! lovelife22 0 #8 April 14, 2004 I had the exact same surgury about 8 years ago!! On both knees... It's a quick and pretty painless surgery (compared to an ACL or MCL). Not many scars depending on how good of a surgeon you have. I only have three small holes in both knees. I have worse scars from all my other sports! Recovery time is also not bad...I think about 1-2 months. I didn't run for awhile afterwards...Be patient and don't rush into anything too quickly. I know it'll be hard not too, but it'll pay off in the end. You will be totally fine!!!
