Django Firefly Reserve

Recommended Posts

While I'm at it, does anybody have FIRST HAND jump experience with the Django Firefly?

I see no reason to refuse to pack it - despite the age it's in great condition. I'd like to have some information regarding flight and flare characteristics to give to the owner.

I've seen one landed. Hmm actually it was the main but I think they were the same.

Max suspended weight per the manufacture is 150 lbs. I stick with that. Fly it like a little Pegasus. That's what it is. One stage flare to PLF.

The continuous dacron lines are just crying out for a tension knot.

Age is enough on this one for me not to pack it. Must be 27-28 years old?

Got a manual? I don't think I even have one.

Have fun
I'm old for my age.

I had a Firefly main. It was a really nice canopy. Definitely a one-stage flare. Could open hard if I didn't roll the nose enough (and I like firm openings). I gave it away in early 2005.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

When Django went out of business (circa 1983), most of their patterns went to Glide Path.

When Glide Path opened, they started building Firelite reserves, which were merely Fireflies with min-flares instead of direct line attachments.
Back in 1985, I did a handful of jumps on a Firelite main canopy. BAck then I weighted closer to 175 pounds and despite carefully flared landings in the pea gravel bowl, my ankles stung.
Firelites are probably okay for guys who weight more like 150 pounds.
