lawrocket 3 #4 April 15, 2004 Yeah, Clay. It's a tough possibility. We may, in fact, get an earthquake. Hopefully it won't be too cold. We don't want the good people of Huntington Beach to face the common blizzards without adequate shelter. Okay, joke over. Hopefully this won't occur. If it does, I hope it doens't occur on the Newport-Inglewood fault. That would be bad. My wife is hotter than your wife.

Michele 1 #6 April 15, 2004 Thanks for your concern, Clay. However, everyone in California - and up the entire coast, as a matter of fact - should always have "kits" ready. One for the car, and one in a good location in your home. 3 days' supply for each member of the household, including meds and pet supplies, as well. Also have an out of area phone number to call should the need arise to check in (mine is in NJ). Basic common sense can get someone through a good shake. Furthermore, while a 6.4 is a good shaker, the Northridge Quake was 6.9 (some reports put that quake over 7), which is much larger and stronger than the one predicted. Of course, they're always bad when they're big, but we've had larger, and managed to get through it mostly fine. Besides, I'd rather deal w/ a quake than a tornado or hurricane any day. They may be scarier, but it starts and stops fairly rapidly, so the fear is not prolonged....(o.k., that's justification, but so what??). Never take a quake lightly, never discount the fact that they could happen ANY time, ANY where; take proper precautions. But I think, ala duct tape and plastic sheeting, things are blown out of proportion sometimes. I hope he *is* right, because that would be an amazing thing for EQ science. If he's discovered something which can predict one, think of the lives that can be saved - not necessarily in SoCa, but places like Iran, Afghanistan, and other places that aren't up to building standards like here. lawrocket 3 #8 April 15, 2004 QuoteFurthermore, while a 6.4 is a good shaker, the Northridge Quake was 6.9 (some reports put that quake over 7), That's right! We shit a 6.4 out here. Anything under a 6.9 and 2 g's of ground movement is nuthin' more than a good ride! A little temblor like a 6.4 is our way of saying, "Cheerio!" Sure, give us a quarter inch of rain and power goes out, mudslides happen and traffic grinds to a halt. 1/4 inch might as well be one foot. Utter chaos. But earthquakes are handled like snow in Juneau - it happens, live with it, and while we're at it, let's make some money marketing igloos! My wife is hotter than your wife. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZaccccccccccccclyyyyyyyyyyyy. "Cheerio"! (LOL, what do you think the title of the post will be if it happens? My guess is "Cheerio my ASS!". LOL! Quote*gets out map of fault lines provided by relocation company* First, welcome to CA. Make sure you let me know when you get here...I've lived here all my life, and can help you get acclimated. Second, remember that the Northridge Quake was on a previously unknown fault line. Face it, they don't know all the faults - only those which have actually moved in the last few hundred years....so you may *think* you're safe, but not really. So CA - the entire place - is an earthquake fault zone. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
Clownburner 0 #12 April 16, 2004 I recall waking up for the northridge quake, looking at the bookshelf, seeing nothing had fallen, and going back to bed. Now a 7.5, that would get our attention! 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

It was a bit different for me...my girlfriend and I were thrown out of bed(we were at her place, in Northridge)...and when the shaking stopped and the roof hadn't caved in...we went back to bed... funny thing was when we woke up in the morning, we both thought it had been a dream... Racenic 0 #14 April 16, 2004 I for one can't wait for it to happen. In fact I hope it's an 8.5 or bigger. Why you ask? Because I'm hoping a few million people will pack up and leave this state for another state or the country they originally came from. We will have less traffic a larger gas supply affordable homes more jobs less air traffic The list goes on..... AggieDave 6 #15 April 16, 2004 Sure, everyone's real cool for an earthquake...I bet if they had a good TX spring/summer storm with tornados roaming around they'd get up and stay up. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
