ACMESkydiver 0 #1 April 16, 2004 My kids' medical insurance cancelled due to my non-ability to get them their damn forms in time...I had called and told them I lost them, and I'd need a few more days... During this time, my daughter gets outrageously sick (GO FIGURE?!?) And I take her in to her pediatrician for diagnosis, and to start some antibiotics. Conversation goes somethin' like this: Desk lady: "Do you have your insurance card with you?" Me: "No, I'm sorry...it's at home." Desk Lady: "It says here that your insurance has expired." Me: "That's just a misunderstanding; it's good." Desk Lady: "Well, since you already booked the appointment and brought Jaleesa here, we'll see her...but we can't see any of your children again until we see a valid insurance card." Me: "Ok, no problem." So I take the sprout in to the doctor, and he listens to her chest, looks in her mouth, yadda yadda, and says we should get X-rays. "X-rays?!" I say. "Could be pneumonia," he says. Good Lord! What a time to have no coverage. "Ok, let's do it," I say, and wonder what the desk lady is gonna think about this when I skip town and never show my face again... We go to the pharmacy to get her medications...and the conversation with the pharmacist is almost identical to desk lady, except I will have to pay the $50 for her bottle of 4 days of antibiotics. Ok I do it -what else can I do?? So the pharmacist is staring at me after I explained that I KNEW that I didn't have insurance, but took my daughter to the doc anyway...and I was just trying to get a break here until I can get this all straightened out. YES I LIED!!! This guy must have not had kids or something... I'm good for the money, the skipping town thing was a joke...but even if I wasn't and didn't have a damn penny, my kid would SEE A DOCTOR regardless of what I had to do... Wouldn't you do the same if your kid could have pneumonia or bronchitis or something that could potentially threaten their life???~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Nightingale 0 #3 April 16, 2004 most doctors will not see you if you say you don't have insurance. I couldn't even get a specialist to make an appointment with me without an insurance referral. Me: if the insurance doesn't refer in time, I'll pay cash. Secretary: sorry. we can't schedule appointments without insurance authorizations. Me: I need to see a specialist. Like tomorrow. I'm in a lot of pain. Her: sorry. its policy. *click*
ACMESkydiver 0 #4 April 16, 2004 Quote>YES I LIED!!! Why couldn't you just say "No, no insurance, I'll pay cash?" Um, I didn't have cash! And if I had said that I would pay at time of service, they would have stopped me on the way out and demanded payment...then it would get ugly, and my lil' girl was there. They WILL get their money, but it was something I couldn't do at that moment, but she HAD to be seen immediately. The insurance fib has bought me time...I have a bout a week to straighten out this mess, and everyone will be happy.~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. turtlespeed 226 #5 April 16, 2004 That is when you ask the person who makes the policy - if it is her then ask her how she sleeps at night.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

I've said similar things to "people in charge of making the policy" and they really really don't care. Sad but true. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! Nightingale 0 #8 April 16, 2004 That was the most awful experience of my life. I was having CONSTANT heartburn. Bad, awful, doubled over in pain heartburn. And I couldn't see a damn doctor. My regular doc had already done what she could (prilosec, nexium, etc...) and said I needed to see a gastroenterologist, since the ER had already ruled out a cardiac issue. Three freakin' weeks of constant heartburn. Three freakin' weeks of sleeping in a chair because I couldn't lay down because that made it worse and eating nothing but bread because that was about the only thing that wouldn't make it worse. Two freakin' weeks of waiting for the insurance paperwork. One week waiting from the time I was allowed to make the appointment until they had a slot available to see me. Then, the doc looks at my test results, switches my medication, and I haven't had heartburn since, as long as I stay on the meds. Its sad when someone can tell a doctor "I have the means to pay you. You can even see my bank statements if you wish. PLEASE, see me!" and they refuse because your insurance might not cover it.
