Guest #1 April 20, 2004 Okay, 'nother vibes request. I've requested vibes for others before, but this time it's for myself. As many of the forum regulars know, I've been unemployed for eight months. Late last Friday night, I got a Fosters buzz on whilst I surfed for jobs (yes, I know, "It's Strine for Bud!", but I like it, so STFU - ), and I came across one on a recruiting firm's site that reads like my resume. On a whim, I dropped my resume into the ASP, and when another ASP came up, asking for a short essay on why I thought I was the best for the job, I briefly summarized my resume, comparing it point-by-point to the job requirements, and finished up with a small, whimsical flourish. Whereupon I pretty much forgot about it, thinking "Yeah, that'll be the last time I see that one." Imagine my surprise when a call came from the recruiter this AM, asking me to come to his office this afternoon. When I got there, he said the company had seen my resume and wanted to interview me first thing tomorrow morning... The recruiters (there were two in the room by now) were almost jumping up and down with excitement. They told me that the CTO of the firm they were recruiting for usually took a good long while to select candidates...he called the recruiting firm back just twenty minutes after getting my resume... Apparently he was impressed with the broad range of IT experience I've accumulated over the past twelve years, and was especially impressed by my writing skills and the fact that I've stayed busy while I've been laid off... So, although I've probably (and rightly) been pre-empted by the request from Lisa (skybytch) for vibes for her friend who was involved in a CRW-wrap over the weekend, I respectfully request that some good vibes also be sent over here, so that I can land this gig and maybe have a career again. It's a six-month temp gig and might go to contract-to-hire. The firm will be trying to line up venture capital by September. If it's secured, the job will go permanent. It's also not full time, and it's in downtown Seattle (I was hoping it was Bellevue - I missed that part...) But like the recruiter said, the CTO is well-connected to big players at M$FT, so if this job doesn't work out, he might be able to send something else my way, so who knows? mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
