Favorite Jimmy Buffet song?

Recommended Posts

You've actually probably heard a ton of his songs. You just don't recognize it as being "his". In fact, you probably don't recognize the songs as being the same artist.

I had about four years of not knowing who he was. Then one of my friends sat me down and made me listen to about four hours worth of his stuff, and I kept saying "oh, I know that song" every ten minutes or so.

I listen to everything mostly. Mainly rock music, but I like everything. I'm listening to some songs right now and you're right about the fact that I've heard them before but didn't know it was him.

Thanks Kennedy for the websites!
I'm so funny I crack my head open!

Oh well..........who sings that then?

Rupert Holmes.

My favorite is Little Miss Magic, for sentimental reasons. My daddy used to play that for me, and mom sang it to me all the time when I was 2-4 years old, right around when Coconut Telegraph came out, I think.

you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?

Jimmy Buffet discriminates against women.
:P

runs & hides....

comes back out - KIDDING - JEESH!! :)

My fav is changes in lattitudes changes in attitudes mainly because by moving from FL to Chicago I've noticed how different people can be.

There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear.

A Pirate Looks at 40

Gotta go with you on that one....GREAT song! Funny story with it too. I was in Key West a few years ago - and for those of you that don't know, Jimmy helped put that place on the map...original Margaritaville - anyway, we were at a Kareoke bar. It was pretty packed for the size of the place, 100-150 people....and these people took there Kareoke seriously...some of them were pretty damn good!

Unbenounced to me, my friend signed me up to sing Pirate Looks At 40. The MC calls my name and I'm like WTF!!...but I'm pretty shit-faced by this point so I say screw it. I start singing (if that's what you want to call it) and I'm just doing Jimmy no justice at all and the crowd is letting me know it. So my friend jumps on stage and starts dancing like a Hawaiin skirt/belly dancer to help diverge the attention from me. We finish and exit the stage to mix of boos, laughs, and applause.

The next day we are at a Pizza parlor eating lunch and this couple walks up to us and says "Hey you're the guys from the Kareoke bar! You gonna perform again for us tonight...we haven't laughed that hard in ages!" Jimmy might have made that song famous, but that weekend we made that song INFAMOUS in Key West!:D

Sorry for the long post, I had just completely forgotten about that story until I read this thread.

I love just about all of Jimmy Buffett's songs. I could not listen to him for a while after my ex and Dakota's Papa Randy died, because anyone who knew Randy knew that Jimmy Buffett was all he listened to day and night 24/7. I'm not kidding when I say that was ALL he listened to. It was actually pretty funny. I think one year, we went to 4 concerts :S including the Millenium Concert dressed like pirates.

I could deal with it since I liked Jimmy myself but when he asked for our wedding song to be Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw, that is where I drew the line :S:|

I love Son of a Son of a Sailor, Volcano and Mental Floss but the song Schoolboy Heart will always bring a tear to my eye and remind me of Randy.

"I've got a schoolboy heart, a novelist eye, stout sailor's legs and a license to fly ..."
Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires."

Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

I was living in Daytona when "Margaritaville" was a top-40 hit. That was back when beach access was unrestricted (crabbing, fishing, etc.).

It was a very, very fitting song. The endless Summer of my youth - spending all day skin-diving off the beach, tubing, etc.; coming home and getting cleaned up and cooking up seafood....[:/]

Sure do miss that way of life....

. Occasionally he shows up at Orlando Citywalk and plays at Margaritaville unannounced....fortunately, I have a bit of insight as to when that could be... :D

EXCUSE ME! You better share that insight with me, Mr, or you will NEVER have a working blender again! Give me fair warning and I'M THERE!
